Do not stand at my grave and weep,
I am not there, I do not sleep.
I am a thousand winds that blow.
I am the diamond glint on snow.
I am the sunlight on ripened grain.
I am the gentle autumn rain.
When you wake in the morning hush,
I am the swift, uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circling flight.
I am the soft starlight at night.
Do not stand at my grave and weep.
I am not there, I do not sleep.
Do not stand at my grave and cry.
I am not there, I did not die!

What???  Where did she ever come up with an insane idea like this?  No wonder MSNBC is such a joke.

It is that kind of mentality that I find a tad disturbing.

"It takes a village to raise a child." Ever hear of that proverb?

Some claim it to be African in origin, yet others claim it to be Native American* in origin. Most likely it originated within most cultures way back in history in one form or another, and was the basis for the way those cultures assured the education of their children.

Given your position on this woman's statement I would say it is sad that this approach has been lost upon the masses.

*-Essex A. Guy Zona in 'The Soul Would Have No Rainbow if the Eyes Had No Tears' (Simon & Shuster, 1994), a book of Native American proverbs, attributes the quote to the Omahas, a Siouan-speaking tribe from Nebraska known for participating in a major political action against the United States government concerning ownership of Indian lands in the 1880s.

Given the state of today's society, it is sad that we have lost these ancient ideas.  When I was growing up in the mountains of Southwest Virginia, I had not only an extended family to answer to, but I also knew that the entire community was watching after me. If I ever did anything wrong, I could be certain that my parents/grandparents would find out about it.

Maybe she could have worded it a little better then.  I did not take it like that.  Problem being if you were to do something like that now someone would try to sue you or you would be told to mind your own business.

Or maybe you were predisposed to react as you did because of what Glenn Beck and Sarah Palin are frothing at the mouth about?

It's also pretty hypocritical coming from these breeders whom I've been subsidizing my entire life.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

I absolutely did so, you dumb bitch.  In addition to my taxes paying for the additional infrastructure necessary to support your spawn while you claimed them as exemptions, my property taxes paid for the schools they attended.  Now, I'm paying for your grand-children.  It's pretty simple fucking math that even someone as ignorant as you are should be able to grasp.

I totally get what you are saying, I too had a neighborhood like that.  My point is, I think we have WAY too many in today's society that have become dependent on "others" doing what the parents SHOULD be doing.  Being accountable for our OWN kids.  I think our government is garnishing more and more control on issues that, imo, SHOULD be conducted by the parents.

I realize that we have a complete breakdown in our 2-parent system, that used to be the norm and it was more successful.

I think groups like the cub scouts/boy scouts, YMCA, church groups are all good.....just not a fan of our government intervening in this area....but, It is just MY opinion...and one that I am willing to cling to.

Exactly the point I was trying to make - mostly anyway. And I really think she was saying the same thing. I don't think government has a thing to do with this discussion.
