I would prefer bar room karoke to this. At least with karaoke I get alcohol to numb the agony.

OK, so I get home this afternoon and in the mail is a letter from Express Scripts saying that they are sending me a 60 day supply of a medication I don't recognize but to get it again my doctor has to fill out a paper for pre authorization because it exceeds the recommended dosage. So I call them and after two computer programs, repeating my id number, name, birthdate and address twice I get a real person who asks the same questions and tells me she can't answer my questions, puts me on hold and transfers me to someone else. I am on hold 10 minutes. Get another lady who asks the same questions, says she can't help me, puts me on hold to transfer me to another person that can help me. Another 10 minutes on hold. Third person asks same questions, says she is my account manager, transfers me again. 10 minutes on hold. Finally the FOURTH person, who asks me who I am, etc., tells me it is the COMPLETE generic name for Lipitor which I have been toking for at least 10 years. Lipitor comes in 10, 20, 40 and 80 mg strengths. I take 60 mg, 3 20mg tablets a day. But the government only wants me to take 1 pill a day, if I had been taking an 80mg dose, no problem, I say how stupid is that, she says, new government programs with the new health care law. Maybe I should send a bill to the government for the time I spent on the phone and the extra trip to the doctor to get a refill authorization. I am glad no one took my bp while I was on the phone.

Well, then lets blame the non government people who wrote the new health care law.

Are they bound by the law? Unless the person lied about it being required by the new healthcare law, who is to blame?

Anne, I know how you feel about trying to get an answer while being transferred from person to person, or worse, having to deal with automated replies and end up back where you started with no answer

Maybe I'm reading what you wrote wrong, but it may be that the drug company that makes the generic equivalent of Lipitor makes the strengths most often prescribed. You did the right thing by contacting your doctor for a new prescription.

As for the "new law" you say was mentioned to you, I don't know specifics but do remember reading that generic options (if available) must be considered in writing prescriptions because most if not all name brands are more expensive, some prohibitively so.

Example: The name brand version of one of my medications (for glaucoma) is a teeny tiny little bottle which costs about $85.00. The generic equivalent is about $15.00.
