Huh. . . because that is exactly what you said to me when I dared to express my frustration over diesel prices that have pretty much exceeded gasoline prices for the last 9 years. (Just replace "diesel" for the word "gas". )

toche'

Taken out of context, but toche'

Now, that does not excuse the POTUS remarks and the Energy Sec. remarks.........THEY got what THEY wanted.....and that is $4 buck plus a gallon gas.....they WANT it that way....and they are bastards in my opinion.

Big difference between speculation and action(s) and legislation. The fact is over the past 4 years neither one of them could have passed anything, much less a piece of legislation that worked toward the initiative you ascribe to them. The party of "No" assured this.

Your anger would be better directed toward the real drivers behind oil prices; speculators, investment firms, and the oil companies themselves! Not to mention the market influences.

so disregard the FACT that they WANTED higher prices at the pump?...........It seems that there not too motivated to do anything about it....they got what they wanted....that is exactly where my anger IS....the POTUS can influence the speculators and investment firms...perhaps he has influenced them...and that is why we are where we are.

Lies.

Republican presidential candidates Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich have repeatedly lifted several quotes out of context to allege that President Barack Obama and his administration actually wanted to drive up the price of gasoline, and have succeeded.

Gingrich said Obama wants gasoline prices to get to the European levels of $9 or $10 a gallon, but that "he just wants it to be gradual." But that's not what Obama said. Rather, when asked in 2008 about then-$4 per gallon gasoline prices, and whether that could be a good thing to encourage people toward alternative energy, Obama responded that he "would have preferred a gradual adjustment" because "the fact that this is such a shock to American pocketbooks is not a good thing." He said nothing of wanting to goose gasoline prices to European levels, gradually or otherwise.

Romney has repeatedly claimed Obama said during the 2008 campaign that under his energy policy, energy prices would "skyrocket." "And they have," Romney said. But Obama was talking about electricity, not gasoline. And the cap-and-trade plan he endorsed to limit carbon emissions — which died in the Senate in 2009 — included provisions aimed at protecting consumers from higher prices.

Gingrich repeatedly has cited a comment Energy Secretary Steven Chu made in 2008 about wanting to boost the price of gasoline to encourage fuel conservation. But Chu made that remark before the 2008 election and before Chu became energy secretary. Upon joining the Obama administration, Chu said it would be "completely unwise to want to increase the price of gasoline."

Not really.  Isn't it more likely that they might be driving up the price of futures to influence the outcome of the election?

me

I find it rather curious how some could blame Bush for high gas prices, which weren't this high, but yet make up all kinds of reasons why it isn't Obama's fault and say he has no influence on the prices.

Actually, the national average price of gasoline right now is still under $4.00 per gallon whereas in July of 2008, the national average price of gasoline per gallon was $4.11 so you are incorrect with your assertion that gas prices weren't this high under Bush.

Nope, I never claimed that Bush could control the price of gas but I did bitch about the tax subsidies being given the oil companies...and still am!

No, I mean that you are quick to accuse Palehorse for taking a comment of yours out of context and a few posts later excuse your candidates for having done exactly that to the extent that it exposes them as liars.  I mean people with no moral compass.

This is a primary example of the level of hypocrisy within the repugnican party and its conservative sheeple.

Despite the fact the "information" used to generate the above quoted posting being proven patently false, it is none-the-less reiterated repeatedly. Moreover, we also see the playground tactics of "but he did it" and "I say so" being utilized in quick succession.

Neener neener neener, you're a little wiener!   :roll eyes:

  • Consider that when an individual complains about the price per gallon of a grade that the general consumer does not use much, it's not a problem and they should "shut up about it". But when the exact same situation impacts a grade they do use, it's now a major catastrophe!
  • Consider that when fuel prices soar under one POTUS, "the office doesn't have any control over it what-so-ever", but when it rises under another POTUS it is "all his fault". (Why is that I wonder?)

Conservatives have no true sense of direction, most often changing direction on a given issue with the winds!

(And by the way Henry, I in no way took your comment to me out of context. That portion of your reply within the previously quoted post, was directed specifically to my prior posting that expressed frustration over the fact that diesel prices were well above premium gasoline prices despite the fact it is the dirtiest grade produced and requires much less refining and non value added / value added effort to produce).

They're nothing more than sheep! Too lazy to even do the slightest research on the subject, they lap up every single bit of propaganda being spoon fed them.

I'd be laughing my ass off if it weren't so damned scary!

20 minutes of research will provide more than enough scientific proof, from highly credible sources, to demonstrate that the republican party line surrounding oil, the US reserves, and the supposed impact of extracting it, are nothing short of bald faced lies!

For clarification, I put the "spill baby, spill" into my post for shock and awe. The main point is that extracting it in the way the republican / conservative perspective has been endorsing for 4 years now, (they started before the POTUS was even elected if you will recall), puts this country on the FAST TRACK to depletion inside of 4 years, (by the learned estimations of the very best geological, and gas/oil industry experts).

Drill baby, drill! And by 2016 you'll be paying $30/US Gal for that gasoline! And ALL of it will be imported because there won't be a drop left within US possession.

(BY the way, I've been paying between $3.50 and $4.50 a gallon for diesel for 8 years now. Try paying that kind of coin for the dirtiest, least refined fuel and see how pissed it makes yah!)

Quote from: Henry Hawk on November 22, 2011, 10:20:07 PM
btw, I do plenty of research.....and I stand by my opinions.

YOU are the one who decided to buy a disel....no body put a gun to your head.

IF there is no market for oil here, then the rich will not waste thier time or money here......but, just endorsing this drill baby drill, caused the oil to drop.  The arabs WANT to be sure we buy our oil from them and no one else.

At the least we need to open up the market to see what we REALLY have, because even most expert say they really do not know, we may very well have billions MORE than what was once forcasted....
