The House Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness Committee will hold a hearing and is scheduled to vote on House Bill 1333, which would prohibit motorcycle profiling. Under the bill, it would be illegal for law enforcement officers to pull someone over just for riding a motorcycle or wearing motorcycle gear. A companion bill is also scheduled for a hearing in the Senate.

Don't really know, it kind of came out of the blue as far as I am concerned. I figure either a national MC got some juice with the lobbyists or there has been an increase in profiling of motorcyclists that has pissed off a bunch of people who know how to write their congress-persons!!!

Or maybe congress is looking for some muscle to defend them from the whacknuts they've been inciting the last couple of years?

There have been some incidents on the east coast in the last couple of years.  Law enforcement overstepping their bounds and trampling on the rights of innocent motorcyclists while looking for bad ones.  Don't remember too many details, but i did read about it in the AMA magazine.
