Just finished watching a little production called "Raising Sand" which features Robert Plant and Alison Krause. It was them performing the songs from this cd live on the MHD channel's "Cross Roads" series.

The idea is bring bring artists together from different genres of music and have them perform. (I really am growing quite fond of this programming). These two made a series of recordings and released it.

I have to say I like several of the songs, but I had several moments of surrealism during this production. I mean, to hear the opening of "Black Dog" on a banjo; and to hear Krause sing "When the Levee Breaks" to a slower bouncy beat. . . I liked it but I found myself looking for the original within the new if you know what I mean. And I found it several times. Just not where I expected it to be.

I really like Krause's work and love to hear her voice. I guess the thing with Plant worked, but it was certainly not what I was expecting from either of them.

Nice change of pace though, and brought new to the old in ways I'd have never thought possible. You might give it a listen sometime. . .

EDIT:
Okay, that was too easy. I just went to I Tunes, bought it for 10 bucks, and the disc is burning right now.  8) Saved 7 bucks!

I guess the Zep tunes were a live performance only. (That's a good thing though).

btw, i'm not surprised that allison krause would sound good singing "black dog" and "when the levy breaks".  bluegrass is just hillbilly blues.  and those songs were written by old blues guys.
