I was reading an article in the HB that stated that:

Quote. . .A violation of the seat belt law is a Class A infraction, which could cost up to $10,000 in fines. It's the same fine as riding inside of a vehicle without a seat belt. . .

Bet you wear that seatbelt now!

When did it get that high?  Last I knew it was only up to $500

Probably increased it to help generate revenue for the state and city. . . Jackasses!

No doubt and now they'll be fining everyone.  Don't remember who was telling me but I was told that if it's a passenger who isn't wearing the seat belt they fine them as well as the driver now.

Another over reach by a "feel good" do gooder" judicial system.  Giving the cops more power to intimidate and make more money for the state and the LAWYERS.  Just how many people have been killed falling out of a pickup truck.  More people die falling out of bed.

More to the point, given the state of the economy here in Anderson, I wonder just how many folks will lose their house and become indigent over the draconian fines these jackasses are imposing for not wearing a seatbelt?

This law was defintily made by the lawyers.  The fine is so high, you will have to hire a lawyer to keep from losing your assets.  Hell, drunk driving isn't this expensive.  I'm surprised that they didn't make it a felony to.

Oh, one more thing, the town board of Lapel, Indiana put in their law, if you don't get a licence tag for your golf cart.  They can levey a fine up to $10,000.  They charge you $40 a year and the town cops check it for brakes, break lights, turn singals and SEAT BELTS.  The cops use the money to go the the gun range and burn the money up in ammuniion.  Better to kill you with one shot.  And to buy uniforms for the Want a Be's.  Who work free.  What a police force.

The state will let you drive it, golf cart free, if you put a slow moving vehicle sign on it.

I'm confused. ;D As a result of this article, I decided to look up the seatbelt fine for my state and took a look at Indiana too. I guess "up to" could mean anywhere between $25 and $10,000?

See what I said, it's a lawyer written law.  You go to court in the Madison County Court and with the dumbass judges we have had and we have now.  LIke the judge in the milk plant land deal.  You got to hire a lawyer because you never know what the assholes will do.

My cousin and I were in Indy one day last winter and were stopped by an officer who said we were in a "mobile restraint zone" and my cousin, the driver wasn't wearing her seat belt. The officer wrote her a ticket and it was $25, said how much it was on the ticket. Maybe the fine goes up if it is in addition to another infraction or if you go to court.

And you weren't arrested or ticketed for having kids in the back of your pickup.
