Louisiana lawmakers propose prayer to stop oil disaster

While cleanup crews and technical teams continue efforts to stop crude gushing into the Gulf of Mexico, Louisiana lawmakers are proposing a different approach: prayer.

Now blogs on the Christian fringe are abuzz with possibility that the oil spill is the realization of Revelation 8:8–11. "The second angel blew his trumpet, and something like a great mountain, burning with fire, was thrown into the sea. A third of the sea became blood, a third of the living creatures in the sea died, and a third of the ships were destroyed ... A third of the waters became wormwood, and many died from the water, because it was made bitter." According to Revelation, in other words, something terrible happens to the world's water, a punishment to those of insufficient faith. The foul water, according to the New Oxford Annotated Bible, mirrors one of the plagues God called upon Egypt on behalf of his people Israel.

Though maybe it's Revelation 16:3: "The second angel poured his bowl into the sea, and it became like the blood of a corpse, and every living thing in the sea died."

Some interpreters are very sure: The oil spill matches biblical prophesy and is another predictor of the end. One commenter at Godlike Productions argues that the redness of the oil seen in pictures can be interpreted as blood. "The water is tinted red from the oil ... it ACTUALLY looks like blood. coincidence??? NOT!!!!"

  Yep.  God did it.  He drilled down in 5000 ft of water, then drilled down in the earth 1,880 ft into the earth.  Then he snapped off the pipe and caused the oil leak.     

  If there is any oil leak stopped and the mess cleaned up, it will be man, not prayers or God.

  If God does anything he send a hurricane and paint the whole Southern coast Black with crude oil.  It will because of all of the Southern Baptist Teabaggers pushing their Republican agenda.

There prayer is no more and no less than what Obama offered up....it is a way for all of those who believe to collectively come together in a form of prayer, to help them get through a terrible tragedy....and I'm sorry if YOU think it is a waste of time, but the VAST majority of voters in this Country have a form of faith in something higher....even if you like it of or not...

A RESOLUTION

To recognize and declare Sunday, June 20, 2010, as a Statewide Day of Prayer for Louisiana
and for the population and region surrounding the Gulf of Mexico, in particular those
people affected by the environmental and economic disasters that erupted in the
aftermath of BP Deepwater Horizon oil leak.

WHEREAS, in times of great distress and need, we, the people of this land, have
always turned to private, public, and corporate prayer; and
WHEREAS, a Statewide Day of Prayer provides each of us with a powerful
opportunity to humble ourselves before our Almighty God; and
WHEREAS, the citizens of Louisiana are urged to pray for a solution to this crisis,
each according to his or her own faith, to pray for God's continued guidance and protection,
and to join in the observance of a day of prayer, seeking God's blessings upon both our state
and nation; and
WHEREAS, although there exists a great diversity of types of prayer, prayer is
always about calling upon God, and prayers woven together through common effort can
themselves become an awesome and powerful force; and
WHEREAS, a day of unified, intercessory prayer, by and for those people living
throughout the regions around the Gulf of Mexico, to pray for an end to this environmental
emergency, sparing us all from the destruction of both culture and livelihood; and
WHEREAS, untold millions of people, not only in regions surrounding the Gulf of
Mexico, but throughout the world, will be affected by this event; a crisis that remains
unaffected by the efforts of mortal man; and

WHEREAS, we now turn our attention and our prayers to the present circumstances
and humble ourselves before Almighty God.

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Senate of the Legislature of Louisiana
does hereby designate Sunday, June 20, 2010, as a Statewide Day of Prayer for Louisiana
and for the population and region surrounding the Gulf of Mexico.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana does
hereby urge the citizenry of the state and all people of faith throughout the United States and
the world to give personal thanks, each according to his faith, for the blessings we have
received, for God's continued guidance during these trying times, and for God's grace to
bring an end to the devastation.

BEITFURTHERRESOLVED that the Senate of Legislature of Louisiana calls upon
the people of Louisiana to join each other and the entire community that is linked by the
Gulf of Mexico in this unified expression of faith and hope.

We have presidential leadership as evidenced by the fact that the Republicans are so ticked off all the time. Like half-starved models, they pout, sulk and glare at every decision made. These aren't decisions which only benefit the wealthy so they cry about constitutional violations when the truth of the matter is that a majority of them haven't read it.
