I wonder why the media rarely uses the standard 2 letter abreviation for the states.

TURLOCK, Calif. — A young Latter Day Saint teen from Turlock, Calif., was recently honoured for raising more than $5,000 for victims of the Haiti earthquake. Anne Thomas was awarded "The Spirit of Red Cross" June 2, after raising more than $5,000 for Haiti earthquake victims in a musical benefit concert. Susan Thomas A local Red Cross chapter awarded 15- year-old Anne Thomas with "The Spirit of Red Cross," an honour traditionally given to adults performing "extraordinary life saving acts," according to the Stanislaus County Chapter.

Thirteen others were also recognised at an awards breakfast June 2. "I realised that more important than the accomplishment of raising so much money was developing charity toward all of God's children, looking past my own selfish desires and worldly cares and really caring about someone else," Thomas said. At the beginning of the year, before the earthquake, Thomas was contemplating different service opportunities she could carry out as a "good works" requirement for one of her Young Women value projects. "Before she had made a decision, however, the earthquake in Haiti occurred and she felt compelled to do something," said Thomas' mother, Susan Thomas. That's when Ann Thomas, a talented pianist and cellist, decided to rally other musicians and organise a benefit concert with the help of her parents. From arranging a venue to designing the tickets and flyers, Thomas did it all. The concert, "Young Musicians for Haiti," pulled in $4,585 that evening. A few last-minute donations put Thomas over her goal of raising $5,000.

LDS President Thomas S. Monson arrives to dedicate Cebu City Philippines Temple
Saturday, June 12, 2010
CEBU CITY, Philippines — President Thomas S. Monson arrived in Cebu on Friday for Sunday's dedication of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints' newest Temple.

On Saturday, he walked through the new Cebu Philippines Temple, which is the 133rd worldwide.

President Monson said he has been to the Philippines several times and that being there again is "like returning home."

"I think they (LDS in Cebu and neighboring islands) have long awaited a day of having a Temple," he said. "The Lord has honored their faith and their prayers and now they have a Temple of their own, and it's a beautiful Temple."

While at the Temple, President Monson shook hands with and congratulated the project's construction engineer, Knut Klavenes, who was baptized during construction of the Temple.

Later that night, President Monson attended a cultural celebration, held in conjunction with the dedication of the new Temple. Approximately 4,000 young people — 2,000 performing live in the Cebu Coliseum and another 2,000 shown on large screens performing in the far-flung reaches of the Temple district — entertained the Prophet, who was among the crowd. In addition to Cebu City, the new Temple district includes the Visayas and Mindanao islands, in the southern Philippines.

President Monson said he would describe the Filipino people as "teachable."

The dedication of the new Temple will be conducted during three sessions on Sunday. President Monson will preside over, address and offer the dedicatory prayer in all three sessions.

Assisting him are President Henry B. Eyring, first counselor in the First Presidency; Elder Dallin H. Oaks, of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles; Presiding Bishop H. David Burton, and Elder William R. Walker of the Seventy and executive director of the LDS Church's Temple department.

Proceedings of the dedication will be broadcast to LDS meetinghouses throughout the Philippines.

The First Presidency announced plans to construct the nearly 30,000-square-foot Temple in April 2006. Ground was broken in November 2007.

Ignorance and fanaticism are ravenous. They require constant feeding.

For those who do not know re above. "Big Love" is a fictitious programme which presents misinformation and fallacies. It is not approved by the LDS Church.

Also, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints do not practice polygamy, plural marriage, adultery or fornication all of which are reasons for excommunication.

When you're real good at something, you don't have to practice.
