Why is this so hard for you to understand. I take care of myself and my family and don't rely on anyone else. If it gets to the point where I need help I can rely on my family. Ummm. . . I will intervene in this little squabble to point out what appears to be a shared mis-perception among the combatants. . .

During Operation Iraqi Freedom, there were a LARGE number of USN personnel on the ground, at the forefront of the tip of the spear, and engaged in combat. And I am not just talking about those in the rear with the damned gear either. For example:

Ever wonder how the hell the 3rd Marines, (and others tasked with pushing the front from Kuwait City to all points north in Iraq), physically crossed the rivers and other obstacles in their way? Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 4 (NMCB 4 - Seabees), as well as other Battalions from NMCB, were deployed, on the ground, and tasked with overcoming those obstacles in order to assist the 3rd Marines in their objectives. In addition, due to the fact NMCB 4 was operationally required to conduct their missions within the active zone and alongside the 3rd Marines, specific Naval Combat Warfare companies were also deployed alongside them, in order to maintain security and assure the safety of construction units along the way. And all were there, in the sand, heavily engaged, from DAY ONE! The front line the whole way.

They suffered their share of casualties along the way too, and were/are just as exposed as any other unit deployed within the middle eastern theatre of operations; in fact I dare say that due to the nature of NMCB's assignments, which require astute concentration toward construction initiatives that command attention in order to be executed safely, in some situations their exposure is increased.

There, and at other Forward Operating Bases, Seabees provided construction and camp maintenance support to American and Allied forces operating in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM II. During Operation AL FAJR, the Siege of Fallujah, NMCB FOUR executed bridge assessments, road clearing missions, force protection projects and dewatering of flooded areas throughout the city while exposed to enemy fire. The Battalion's efforts were essential to improving the command and control, endurance and survivability for Marines combating insurgents throughout the Sunni Triangle. The Battalion also played a major role in providing engineering, construction and security support for Iraq's historic democratic elections. Concurrent with supporting OIF II, NMCB FOUR deployed to five other locations including: Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Andros Island, Bahamas; Rota, Spain; Sigonella, Sicily; Souda Bay, Crete; and Dukat, Albania.
