He has caught several lies being told by other commentators and politicians, has them on tape in their own words, and does put down both parties when the occasion calls for it.  He blasted Bush on several things and upheld Obama on several too.  Of course you would never hear about that considering the channels you watch would you?

It has to do with what you calling him a liar.  He has been called a liar for saying things certain people didn't like but has backed it up with fact or their own words on tape.  Yes, he occasionally screws up but he admits it, he does not do it on purpose or try to hide it.  He says things the Republicans don't like too but they don't whine and cry about it or call him a liar.  He also doesn't name call and put the person down like Madcow and some of those other commentators.
