I say we take the damned choice for SCOTUS candidates out of the hands of the POTUS and congress, and put it into the hands of the people. No electoral college but strictly popular vote. And mandatory disclosure of their records and public debates with a neutral moderator.

I absolutely agree.  As I've said before, the court has devolved into nothing more than an extension of the two political parties so the justices should be elected by the people and should serve terms like every other politician.

Either way, we are watching our democracy die.  It was a good run but anyone who is even remotely familiar with the fall of the Roman Empire should have seen this coming.  No society in which the wealth flows away from the populous and toward a relatively few elite will ever survive over time and, in general, average people are too ignorant to be expected to elect leaders that have the ability to govern effectively.
