I still think it should be a requirement to have in order to vote.  You need one to check a book out of a library.  It would NOT effect that many, since the majority already has some sort of ID or DL.  It would help cease voter fraud.  I think the cost would be minimal to help keep some integrity in our voting system.

I have to agree with this.

I agree, too. State IDs are free but you need the proper documentation to get it. You need some kind of picture ID to do almost anything so it shouldnd't be a problem for anyone.  One other thing I found out last month if you look at a newer drivers license it is now the law that you must change the address on it within 30 days of moving.  We were told if you were farther than one year from license renewal this would be free but if not then you just pay for a license renewal.

I had to go get my license done

I needed:
My Birth certificate
My Social card
Two utility bills, or one utility bill and car registration
car insurance card
my old license
any paper work that indicated a change of my name since birth.
(marriage, death, and re-marriage info)
they say it is federal, so be prepared.
I think I paid 18.50, yours could be different.

The point is for almost anything you do, banking, food stamps, welfare, to purchase alcohol in a grocery store no matter what your age, purchase cigarettes, and numerous other things so whats the problem with having to prove who you are to vote?  The argument that it is going to disenfranchise voters is a crock.

Obviously you've never lived, or had relatives that lived, in severely depressed areas of this country. (Or if you did you weren't paying them much attention.)

I've known individuals who have no birth certificate because they were delivered by a mid-wife in 1912, and were so dirt poor their entire lives they grew what they ate, made what they needed, and when they needed to buy something they dug up the cash they had squirreled away in mason jars and buried over the years. I've known and know people who refuse to do business with banks, and buried their money. And the only reason they had a drivers license was because they were forced to get one. And had a hell of a time proving they were who they were because they had no birth certificate.

I still know people who are living this way, and they are a lot more numerous than you might think having lived in what they would term, "the big city", all your life.  But when it comes to voting they vote every single election; and do so based upon the fact the election judges in those areas know who they are and where they live. Period. Some of them do not even drive and for all intents and purposes are "off the grid" not for some nefarious reason, but because of their ingrained mistrust of technology.

They get their mail at a rural post office box, and the post office personnel know who they are. They bank, (when they use them), at local institutions where they show no ID because everybody knows them. Some of them run lines of credit at local stores and feed / grain businesses based strictly on the fact the business owners know them.

So should we impose technology upon them? I'm not so sure they are wrong in their beliefs and way of life. In some cases, the lives they lead are fairly close to that lived within some third world countries, but here in the United States.

Then in those areas they could make an exception but not every area is like that nor are places like that the problem.  The voter fraud is happening in large cities where everyone doesn't know everyone else and this is what they need to stop.  Do you have any better ideas how to stop it?

There are NOT too many left that were born in 1912 or that have NO birth certificates.....So you think we should just drop the idea, because it may effect a few hundred people?

I think the federal government should just stop it!!!  If you live in a community where everyone knows you are the crazy old guy who digs up his trees in rainstorms to see if someone is spying on you, or you chase cars with your dog, or you are the lady who has 600 cats...why do you need ID?    They check off your name, you voted, you are done til next time.

If you are new to the community, Show em your electric bill so they know you live there.  Show em your voters registration.

Your local community should make the rules for their own people so it is based on the need of those who live there.
The cheaters will still cheat.  They will just manipulate the black boxes, throw out the ballots, add their own, count wrong.
But let em vote!! help if they ask!!
My grandfather was the Captain of the Precinct for 50 years!  I dont remember anyone we didnt know coming to the school to vote.  matter of fact I use to go get the ones who lived in the bottoms of the hills and bring them in.  til he caught me bringing in the democrats too.  he didnt understand that everyone should vote.
well, maybe he did understand that, he just didnt like it.

36.7 million people in this country were born before 1947. . . seriously. . .  And each and every day there are thousands of families being thrust into homelessness. How long do you think it will take them to join this lifestyle?
