So true FTW. I had a similar thought a while ago, I was poking around some historical sights in the county and I discovered a battleground where a piece of the Mexican/American war had been fought. There was a huge stone in the center, describing the skirmish and listing all who had fallen that day. According to the plaque, the soldiers had been buried where they dropped. Either the Mexicans had a kick-ass day and none died or someone forgot to mention them. They were fighting for their land. Which is now, a part of San Diego Co. USA. I felt like they deserved an honorable mention.

There are some amongst you who already know my ancestry, and those that do not are finding something out. Believe it or not, it matters little to me either way. Truthfully I typically hold no assumptions of entitlement surrounding my lineage and ancestry, but when I see the kind of draconian perspectives being touted about this country as is happening now, I get angry over the history of this country, its treatment of its native peoples, and the arrogance of those who assume some kind of higher authority to perpetuate this nations sordid history by repeating that history; when in truth the only reason most of you are here now is because of that history of genocide and crimes against humanity.

Get over it? Yeah, I am well beyond such things now, but what is to stop the Native American Tribes of this nation, the True Americans, from laying legal claims similar to those you now propose to extend toward hispanic people? Birth in this country doesn't automatically make you a citizen? Then by that definition ALONE the majority of you reading this need to pack your stuff and book passage to another country.

If you know the tribe you are half way there. All you have to do is contact them and provide them with the names you know, dates, etc. They have all of the official records and each tribal council is empowered to validate your claim and required to officially introduce you to the US Government as a member of the tribe once your claim is verified by them.

It really is not as hard as one may think these days. A lot of the tribes have converted their manual files to electronic and a simple computer search is all that is required in some cases.

Most tribes did not have written records, or records of births. The verbal stories were how they kept track until the interlopers came to this land. The government kept strict records of each and every native American they encountered, and did frequent population counts, etc. ALL of these records were turned over to the tribal councils in each area, and that is the only recognized means of verification today.

There were several tribes of the north that were indigenous to the Canadian areas back then, and friendly with those who resided in the northern tiers of what is now the US. Some went back, some fled to there, and many still reside there even today. AND they've also had a couple of centuries to reproduce and build relations with the Canadian interlopers.
