Isn't this interesting? Of the five Republican candidates running in the primary for Evan Bayh's vacant Senate seat, ONLY ONE has filed the required personal financial disclosure forms that were due on April 4. The one is Marlin Stutzman. He doesn't have any money. He's a farmer.

So he a farmer.  Have you looked at the farmers lately.  They all farm 1000 to 2000 acres.  You couldn't believe the government subsidises these farmers make.  Thousands and thousands of dollars in farm subsidises. :trustme:

I worked for a lot of farmers.  Bailing hay, detasseling corn, disking and rotor hoeing and the great jobs of cleaning out the cow and chicken shit out of the shed and barn, only after it got a foot or two deep.  Only two farmers were truly great people.

The other farmers were the most greediest and tightest and poorest paying people I ever seen.  He  will make a perfect Republican.  Take farm subsidises with one hand and want to cut taxes in the other one. :puke:

Don't know much about farming do ya bud?  Especially the small farmer.  My kids all detassled corn and that was pretty good money for a kid. Hey bailing I can't say that ever paid too good but it depended on who you were doing it for.  Ya, you worked for farmers but do you know what it actually is like to run a farm?   The upkeep, machinery, and other various costs involved?  Then the cost of a dairy, beef, poultry, or other farms?   I come from a family of farmers on my dad's side some small and some medium to big farmers.  No, you didn't work for any of them unless you lived in the Farmland, Winchester, Ridgeville area.  Farmers cannot afford to pay union scale wages those are temporary summer jobs around here not meant to support families.  Stutzman may not be one of those "rich" farmers not all of them are.

Why are y'all jumping on the farmer? He filed his personal financial disclosure forms. Hop up and down on Hostetler and Coats for awhile.

Exactly. At least he's being up front about his finances. . . er as much as a republican can be anyway. . .

Jesus Christ, where did I say small farmers.  The bigger Farmer, the cheaper and tighter they are on paying their employees.

Just outside of town, we have a big, big hog farmer.  He got hogs up to the top of your hip waders in hog shit.  We went into the internet and seen the farm subsidies he was getting, for doing nothing and it was staggering.  Every time he spread his hog shit on his fields he smells up the whole township.  Maybe you have been getting a whiff of it.

For God sake "Me" I'm for the small guy.  That includes the small farmer.

It just must be brain death you have.  I can't think of anything else.

But there is one thing for sure, if he's a Republican and he's a farmer and he's running for congress, HE GOT MONEY AND HE IS NOT A LITTLE FARMER.

Depends on your definition of a "big" farmer.  If he has 1 to 400 head of hogs that is not a "big" hog farmer by any definition but I'll have to agree that it would stink up the county.  I'd sure hate livin' down wind of that farm for sure....  :puke:  Do you know for a fact that he is getting any subsidies?  Just because they are available doesn't mean he is getting them or even qualifies.

To the point: Dan Coats finally filed his financial disclosure today, since the State Dems threatened to file an ethics complaint against him yesterday. He's been a K Street lobbyist for the past several years.

Don Bates, Jr. is a financial advisor in Richmond. I guess he spent so much time advising his clients he couldn't copy off his own portfolio for the disclosure form. Still no filing from him.

Richard Behney is a plumber from Fishers. So far his greatest claim to fame is hoof-in-mouth disease. Monday the Indiana Right to Life rescinded the endorsement they had given him, because he shot his mouth off about some of them. No financial disclosure filed to date.

John Hostettler is a former Sigeco engineer, former Congressman, and completely strange. Brad Ellsworth beat the snot out him two years ago. In his speech acknowledging defeat he said, "For me to win, is Christ," he said. "But to lose, is great gain." Nobody here in the Devil's Playground has a clue what he meant. Since then he has been writing a book -- and not filing his financial disclosure forms.

Marlin Stutzman is a farmer. He runs his family farm. He is 34. And HE FILED his financial disclosure form. Whatever else we know about him, he does know how to follow instructions.

So if y'all really want to bash ol' Marlin, go read something about him first. I'm not particular alarmed by him, and he does have a record of funding education.

But I'm a Brad fan, from way back.

:ME:  would you believe your Senator Lugar.  In this website, under the three legged stool, that farmers can receive subsides of  $15 per acre of wheat.  $24 per acre for corn.  $33 per acre of soybeans and $94 per acre of rice.  The website is Lugar's.  It is.

        http://lugar.senate.gov/farmbill/fresh_floor.cfm

What the farmer get in farm subsides is his problem.  80% of the subsides goes to large corporate farms, because they pay someone to look for every tax break they can get and that goes for farm subsides.

That was set in place sometime ago to control the market and the farmers get it to not grow those particular crops I believe.  There are certain requirements which have to be met and, yes, most of those subsidies go to the larger farmers.  A lot of the larger farm land owners don't even farm themselves but instead rent the land out to people who do and then get subsidies on some of the rest of the land.  The last I knew was that you had to have so much land and set aside so much land to either not grow anything or just a particular crop on.

In this morning's Anderson Herald Bulletin the news that the old carpetbagger from North Carolina, good old boy Dan Coats is loaning himself $200,000 for his campain for senator of Indiana.

Good old Dan, who is a lobbyist /lawyer in Washington with an income of $821,887 from January 1st to April 28th, two months of "work" projected to around $5 million a year.  Was talked into by National Republicans of selling his home in North Carolina and "Leasing a home, here in Indiana" to run for a job that is worth a little over $150,000 per year and all that he can steal.

I know that I am, with all of the good times we are having here in Indiana, is going to support the Republican, carperbagger, Lobbyist, from Washington to represents me in Washington.  :pigfly: :pigfly:
