Militia members charged with police-killing plot

WASHINGTON – Nine suspects tied to a Christian militia in the Midwest are charged with conspiring to kill police officers, then attack a funeral in the hopes of killing more law enforcement personnel, federal prosecutors said Monday.

U.S. Attorney Barbara McQuade said agents moved on the group because the Hutaree members were planning a violent reconnaissance mission sometime in April — just a few days away.

Members of the group called Hutaree are charged in the case, including their leader, David Brian Stone, also known as "Captain Hutaree."

Once other officers gathered for a slain officer's funeral, the group planned to detonate homemade bombs at the funeral, killing more, according to newly unsealed court papers.

According to the indictment, the idea of attacking a police funeral was one of numerous scenarios discussed as ways to go after law enforcement officers. Other scenarios included a fake 911 call to lure an officer to his or her death, or an attack on the family of a police officer.

  Calling Henry, calling Henry the Hawk.  I forgot to tell you that last Saturday, I was down at the American Legion Post, belly up to the bar drinking a Miller's High Life and I told the guys down there about the Unknown Zone and about the Christian Wing Nut Henry and he told me in one of his post that I was very naive.

  You should have been there and heard all of the laughs.   Two of my Legion buddy's almost fell off their stools.  They all said, he called you naive, he doesn't know you too well does he.  No, I said and I like it that way.  I have always said, I'd rather under estimated, that over estimated.

  Henry, I have neither the time or the desire to go back and find your post, where you said, I was naive.  Well, Dude,  the day you said it, I had my come to the computer and read it.  Just then my son came in and he read it to.  He said, Dad he doesn't know you very well, does he and he laughed.
