The Texas Board of Education is debating about removing the word "capitalism" from school textbooks in favor of the words "free enterprise."

As if that weren't enough, they are also debating removing Thomas Jefferson's name in connection with the term "Enlightenment."

Nothing from Texas surprises me.

"If the King's English was good enough for Jesus, it's good enough for me!" A quote attributed to "Ma" Ferguson, the first female governor of Texas, in 1925.

In 1971, the Texas House of Representatives passed a resolution commending Albert de Salvo for his unselfish service to "his country, his state and his community." The resolution stated that "this compassionate gentleman's dedication and devotion to his work has enabled the weak and the lonely throughout the nation to achieve and maintain a new degree of concern for their future. He has been officially recognized by the state of Massachusetts for his noted activities and unconventional techniques involving population control and applied psychology."

The resolution was passed unanimously.

Albert de Salvo was the Boston Strangler.

There's plenty of bullshit going on in Texas.  That's why I would never live there.  From creationism/id v. evolution to their "eye for an eye" view of the justice system.

Everything's bigger in Texas.  Including the bullshit.

If we had one standard curriculum in the US, we wouldn't have to worry about these people with too much time on their hands changing stuff.
Take time to smell the roses.

I see a lot of people complaining about Texas and Texans who love their Church and talk about what they did in Church. I would think this would be a good thing and help promote a strong neighborhood, with your children brought up to beleive in God and what is right. If you personally don't know Christ as your Saviour I could see how this might make you feel uncomfortable, however why should thoes who Love God be silent in thier Joy and worship of God.

To rejoice in the Lord and all He has done, to sing to God and pray from the heart is a blessing from God that I wish everyone could feel and understand. I have had many prayers answered and I know there is a God and I want to worship him and talk about him. If I know someone has a problem with God or having faith in God I would not hound you, but pray for you and try to find a common ground to be friends with you, but never push you. At the same time if I say Prasie God and Thank God or pray before eating my meals this should not offend you.

I guess I just don't understand some peoples resentment for God or God's people. I know not every person who proclaims to be a Christian is loving, or kind and many Churches have turned from the true teaching of Jesus, but God is real and if you look you will find Him and all you have to do is ask for the truth and God will show you the way.

This isn't about "resentment for God or God's people."

It is amazement about the stupidity of some people.

My original post said nothing about religion. It had everything to do with some of the board members being stupid. And it is obvious that you did not read the article that was linked.  Try educating yourself on the topic before you start your sermon, preacher.

The quoted post is a prime example as to why religious zealots are a favorite target of mine. They attempt to interject religion into every conversation, and play the "poor downtrodden holy-man/woman" part to the hilt; the whole time sticking both hands into your pocket to remove anything valuable from them.

You want religion in your child's school, then pay to put them into a private school that teaches it! Otherwise, STFU and leave your religion out of it.

Why in the heck are they wanting to change or rewrite history and why do I feel like I'm watching Fahrenheit 451, (a movie),  trying to become a reality?  I know, nothing to do with the subject just an observation.

It has everything to do with the subject. And you really hit the proverbial nail with that post.

which brings up another topic, and why there should be vouchers...and that would take care of lot of problems.

this whole debacle in Texas seems pretty stupid, and another reason for non-Christians to jump on the Knock-a-Christian bandwagon.....I think there is bigger fish to fry than worrying about the word Captialism or Free Enterprise....but to defend Texas a tad, there is just as stupid crap going on all over the country....I'm not sure why this is even making the news....

Actually, there are more people running around trying to change reality than one might realize.  Here's a prime example:

http://www.conservapedia.com/Main_Page

There's absolutely nothing credible about that site, and I think we've discussed it here before.   Interestingly enough, even THEY disagree with the Texas Board of Education on Jefferson.  From their article:

Jefferson had absorbed both the latest ideas of the Enlightenment and the precepts of republicanism as taught by the pamphlets of the British "country party", which had long been out of power. Jefferson became committed to the ancient rights of Englishmen possessed by Virginians; he was outraged that parliament would threaten those rights.
