Last Wednesday evening, I hit a patch of ice on the way home.  I knew the road was slick, but it still got me.  The back of the truck drifted out, and took the rest of the truck with it.  There was no saving it once it started, I just had to ride it out.  The truck headed across the oncoming lane, no traffic thankfully, and looped around into the ditch.  I managed to find the deepest part of the ditch in that stretch, about 3.5 - 4 feet deep, but at least I missed the power pole.  The truck went in nose first, then the back end came around rather quickly.  At that point the truck started rolling over, and apparently became somewhat airborne.  I saw the horizon spin a time or two, the watched as the roof and hood landed on the ground. while I was upside down.  My head bumped the roof, and my left shin has a scrape from one of the pedals, but otherwise I was untouched.  Since my head was resting against the roof, I just unclicked my belt and drooped the rest of the way down, which wasn't very far.
I crawled out the window and stood up, shaken, but not stirred.

I know for a fact that had I not had my seatbelt on, I would have flopped around inside the cab, injuring myself.  As it was, I was jostled quite a bit, but did not make any serious contact.  Yes, I am a little sore all over, especially the top of my head, but all in all, I feel pretty good.  The belt did what it was designed to do, and I am thankful to those designers.

I don't think it will buff out though, so I am now truck shopping.

( See, every cloud does have a silver lining  )

Dude!

Glad you came through that in one piece!

Thanks for posting that! I too am a firm believer is seat belts. They saved my daughter's life in a head-on collision a few years back.

Holy crap!  :spooked:

Let me chime in here too; I am very thankful you are still around to tell us about it!

I also had an experience or two that made me a firm believer in seat belts, and let me tell you I know what you are saying. Nothing like personal experience to drive the point home is there?

Too bad about the truck though. . . BUT as you said, there is that silver lining isn't there!

Good time to be in the market too I would think. (Well, there is that snow thing to drive their greed around the 4 x 4 thing).

That's a colon cleaner moment.

Glad you're here.

That guy doesn't use the door, and if he did he'd just walk right through it.

LoL! I know the intent was different but that comment made me think of Cousin Eddy in "Christmas Vacation"..."They had to replace the metal plate in my head with a plastic one. Everytime Catherine would rev up the microwave, I'd piss my pants and forget who I was for about 1/2 hour"

Nevermind, I don't know why I thought of that
