The Troll

Caribou killer Sarah hasn't been mentioned on TV the last few day.  I wonder what she going to pull to get back into news.

Well, of course you would, you stupid bitch, because you just don't get it.

Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Josef Goebbels, Hitler's mouth piece spouted so much hate about the Jews, Slavs, Gypsies and everybody else that the Germans thought they were better than, that the Germans killed Millions of them.

But just before the Russians took over Berlin, he poisoned his family, 4 pretty little girs, wife and blew his brains out.  Hate talk really works and Palin knows it works, but also the Republicans know it.  That why they use it

Just think, Rush Limbaugh talks this way three hours a day, five days a week which is fifteen 15 hours of hate on every AM Radio station in America.  And any sane person would think that wouldn't hurt, you got to be kidding me.  We have got to stop this poison.

Hum, speaking about spouting hatred...what is this going on against Palin????  If someone shoots her will it be the lamestream media's fault for spouting all this garbage about her?  Strange how it only works one way with this type of thing.  No one has mentioned what Obama said about getting together with the Republicans when he said "If they bring knives we'll bring guns".   Or that one congressman whose name escapes me at the moment that said he would kill his Republican opponent at the polls.  Noooooo, not one word about that.  But then the dems are perfect and everyone knew that was just a figure of speech...

That's a steaming pile of horse manure! I posted about the comment of the POTUS and the congress member yesterday with an article I posted and linked to. That was one comment though, and pales in comparison to the endless stream of fear mongering and propaganda being spread by Palin and her ilk.

She is courting public attention too, so she's getting it. . .

She and her ilk believe they can say whatever they like, in any manner they like, and be somehow magically absolved of responsibility for the actions their statements and images incite?

With her little acting job this morning she has now raised the ire of the Jewish community. . .

Thoughts on the Arizona Shooting
Monday, January 10th, 2011

Along with most everyone else in the country, we here at Winning Progressive have been glued to the news about the horrible shooting in Tucson, Arizona that led to the death of federal judge John Roll, a nine year old girl, and four adults, and that has left Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-AZ) in critical condition.  We have been extremely saddened the entire weekend by the shootings, our thoughts go out to the victims and their families, and we hope that Rep. Giffords and the other people who were injured will continue recovering.

We have had a number of thoughts about the incident, a few of which we will share here:

* Honor the Heroes – The word "hero" is often overused in our society, as many people are labelled heroes simply for going through a hard event or illness that they had no choice but to experience.  But there are also many heroes – i.e., people who selflessly choose to put themselves in harms way in order to help others – who our society too often overlooks.  At least six people were heroes in Tucson on Sunday, and we should recognize them for their heroic actions.

* The first is Daniel Hernandez, a 20-year-old intern for Rep. Giffords who, upon hearing gunshots, ran toward the Congresswoman to make sure she was okay.  Mr. Hernandez is credited with hopefully saving Rep. Giffords' life, as he worked to stem her bleeding and to make sure she could still breathe despite all of the blood until paramedics could arrive.

* The second is Dorwan Stoddard who, unfortunately, did not survive the shooting.  Upon hearing gunfire, he immediately shielded his wife, who survived as a result.

* The other four are Patricia Maisch, Bill Badger, Roger Salzgeber, and Joseph Zamudio, who tackled and subdued Loughner while he was trying to reload his gun.  Maisch, who had just watched the person in line in front of her get shot twice, managed to keep Loughner from getting a second ammunition clip from out of his pocket.

* Tone Down the Rhetoric: As has been widely pointed out, Sunday's killings occurred in an atmosphere of increasingly violent political rhetoric over the past two years.   More and more, folks in political campaigns have been talking about being "armed and dangerous," "targeting enemies," "reloading," "eliminating" the opposition, using "Second Amendment remedies," and other language that is highly problematic for at least two reasons.

First, it can push unstable people over the edge.  Certainly, the vast majority of people who hear violent rhetoric or see violent imagery targeted at a politician are not going to act upon it.  However, someone who is already mentally unstable may simply snap after receiving a steady diet of such rhetoric.  We don't know yet exactly what motivated Jared Loughner to commit such atrocities in Tucson, but violent political rhetoric is bound to make events like those this past Sunday more likely.

Second, violent rhetoric and imagery are inimical to democratic government.  A fundamental point of democratic government is to establish the societal structures needed to settle disputes peacefully, rather than having disagreements devolve into violence.  Basing our political dialogue on violence undermines those structures and makes it harder for a democratic system to deliver on its promise of a more peaceful society.

* Don't Buy Into the Idea of False Equivalency:  There is no doubt that both sides have used rhetoric that went over the line from time to time.  For example, President Obama's joking statement at a 2008 fundraiser in Philadelphia about Democrats bringing a gun to a knife fight was incredibly stupid and should have been withdrawn.  All of us need to work on toning down the rhetoric and learn to take a deep breath before responding in anger to people of different political persuasions.

But there are some critical differences between a handful of comments that should not have been made by Democrats, and the violent rhetoric that has made up a growing portion of right wing political strategy over the past few years.  In particular, the violent rhetoric on the right has been especially egregious and dangerous for three reasons.

First, such rhetoric has accompanied a deliberate effort by many conservatives to paint President Obama and the Democrats who support him as dangerous outsiders who are un-American.  Too many conservatives have insinuated that President Obama is a Kenyan, Muslim Manchurian candidate who is allegedly a Socialist, Nazi, and Fascist all at the same time.  In short, too many conservatives haven't just strenuously objected to President Obama's policies – they have treated him and his policies as those belonging to an enemy of our nation.

Second, the violent rhetoric from some conservatives has often been targeted at specific politicians, like Rep. Giffords, Nancy Pelosi, or Harry Reid.  Obviously, such targeted vitriol is much more dangerous than statements that are just aimed at the opposing political party in general.

Third, the violent rhetoric is coming not just from some lone crazies or fringe characters on the far right who have little to do with the Republican party. Instead, major elected officials and leaders in the Republican party have been echoing such violent rhetoric or, at least accepting it with a wink and a nod.  For example, here is a slide from a power point presentation that Rep. Joe Barton (R-TX) included a recent presentation he gave urging his fellow Republicans to make him chair of a committee in Congress:

This is not the rhetoric that a member of either political party should be using about the President of the United States.

* Sarah Palin is a Truely Reprehensible Person: Winning Progressive has a rule against mentioning Sarah Palin at this blog because we find her to be an illegitimate know-nothing who gets far too much coverage from the conservative media and from fellow progressives.  We are briefly suspending that rule, however, because we are so disgusted by how Ms. Palin has responded to the shooting of Rep. Giffords and the other victims in Tucson that we feel we must comment.

Ms. Palin's violent rhetoric and imagery - such as map with 20 Democratic congressional districts, including Rep. Giffords', with gunsights over them - is well known. What amazes us is the pitifulness of Ms. Palin's response to the killings in Arizona. In the 36 hours so far since the shooting, Ms. Palin has only managed to issue a two sentence statement on her Facebook page, in which she sent her "sincere condolences" and prayers to the victims of the "tragic" shootings.  Ms. Palin did not disavow the shooter or the shooting, call for a toning down of violent political rhetoric, or express any regret for the violent rhetoric she had engaged in against Rep. Giffords and other Democrats.  It is truly a disgusting and repulsive performance by Ms. Palin.

*     *     *      *      *     *

In summary, we certainly agree that conservatives cannot be directly blamed for the horrendous acts that Jared Lee Loughner committed on Sunday. But there can be little reasonable dispute that creating an atmosphere of violent rhetoric aimed at one side of a political debate makes it far more likely that some unhinged individual is going to act on such rhetoric in ways that have horrible consequences. It would be good for us all to keep that in mind and remember that, while vigorous debate is critical to a well-functioning democracy, violent rhetoric is inimical to it.

There is not one shred of evidence that links anything Palin said or did with this nut job.  It is pure speculation and garbage.  Who was responsible for Bobby Kennedy's shooting?  Was that Palin too?  Oh no wait, that was probably Bush's fault.

Well,  you haven't heard one Democrat talk about killing her, shooting her.  lock and loading on her and putting a sniper's cross hairs on her.  Or using her picture for target practice.

This isn't one you're going to win.  Hate speech by the Republicans, one of their hate and fear tools.
