Well, they obviously think that no one outside of their little clique is smart enough to run their own lives and make their own decisions so, IMO, they think they are superior to all of us and that includes you.  Soooo in this case I would say, yes, intellectual elitism is a bad thing.

But they are wrong to try to do it for everyone.  What is right for one is not necessarily right for another and you can't lump us all into the same category as bad as they are wanting to.  We are not robots and do not need to be treated as such.  I prefer to have a choice in things and if I chose wrong that's my problem and no one elses.

Acutally I DID know who said it..(Ronald Reagan).. ...I will admit I completely blew it by getting into a too big of hurry....when I posted that James Madison said it....It is from a Reagan speech, and I have ALL of them at my finger tips and have often listened to them...
