X-Mas Programs/Movies

We probably wear this topic out year after year, but a thread like this never fails to remind me of a holiday program that I've forgotten all about.

I was thinking the other day how fortunate our children are. When I was growing up, if you missed your favorite Christmas show, then it was too-bad-so-sad, because your opportunity was gone until next year. Now DVDs are a dime-a-dozen giving way to blu-ray. Not to mention the numerous recording devices available today make it easy to record now and watch whenever. Although I'll admit, the only time I like to watch Christmas programming is around the holiday.

Anyway, having rambled on....

Some traditional programs/movies in my house, all of which help me get into the Christmas spirit,  are:


The 1938 version of "A Christmas Carol" (Reginald Owen)
National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation
Charlie Brown's Christmas
The year without A Santa (I love the both the  Heat and Cold miser, but I've been enchanted w/the cartoon since it was banned for a while because supposedly it represented a conflict between Satan and God).
Polar Express
Elf
White Christmas

If you have it with your local cable / satellite provider, check out the Hallmark Channel. They are running xmas programming almost exclusively, and most of them are made by them.

While they are predictable and almost always follow the same formula, they still will bring home the message in a way that is sure to stimulate a tear duct or two once in awhile. . .

A Christmas Story has been a perrenial favorite at our house since it came out on tape.  (yes PH, I have it on DVD now)  We sit down and watch it every year, at least once. 

We also like to watch Cousin Eddie and Clark enjoy their holiday together if we catch it on TV.

I kind of like it myself. That one and "It's A Wonderful Life" and of course, A Christmas Carol. . .

1951 version of A Christmas Carol, I love....AND It's a Wonderful Life.   

The Natalie Wood version of Miracle on 34th Street is also a favorite.

I'm watching "The year without a Santa Claus" and I just realized the parallel between PH, "me", and these two characters. See if you can figure out which is which.

Well that's just funny.  18 was telling me on Friday, after I picked her up from school, that they had watched that Christmas show in her last period class.  And she said, it's my dad's favorite show (in class).  She was even bad....and sent a text to her dad during the showing telling him that she was watching his favorite Christmas show.

I wondered....this is his third Christmas with someone else...wonder if she knows that is his favorite one.  It's not mine, but I do enjoy that heat miser song.
