The company has rules and staying away from the promotion of a state religion is one of them.  Good for Home Depot.

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – A former cashier for The Home Depot who has been wearing a "One nation under God" button on his work apron for more than a year has been fired, he says because of the religious reference. The company claims that expressing such personal beliefs is simply not allowed.

If he had worn the pin for a year and nothing was said what's the big deal now?  There has to be more to it than is being reported I would think.

No, it's very simple.  As those of us who work understand, when you disobey an order from a superior, you get fired.

Yep!  You could almost clone Y's post about the fireman with the flag and insert it here because it's the exact same issue.

1. Employee was told to do something to comply with policy and was given 6 opportunities at that.

2. Employee willfully refused to comply with the policy.

3. Consequences are that the employee is fired.

It really is that simple.

But why wait a year and then do it?  What is so different now from a year ago if the dress code was the same?  Try looking at it from that angle for a change.

Or, maybe, no one cared until someone lodged a complaint.

Doesn't say anything about anyone lodging a complaint.

QuoteEarlier this month, he began bringing a Bible to read during his lunch break at the store in the rural town of Okeechobee, about 140 miles north of Miami. That's when he says The Home Depot management told him he would have to remove the button.

Since the asshole has now "lawyered up," I think it's clear that there was an agenda in play.

Whether you agree with the Bible or not, and I don't necessarily, you can't just automatically side with Home Depot on this one.  If this person had worn the pin for a year with the same rules in force and then only after he started bringing the Bible in to read did they fire him that is wrong.

Believe it or not, I have no problem with this, I agree, that it is Home Depots rules, and the employee was warned....But, just like the fireman, I respected that he stood up for his belief and challanged the rule, and won.....this kid needs to accept what he did was against the rules and either challange the rule or be quite, and accept his punishment.

That only means that he got to work for a year that he shouldn't have.
