Okay who on this site knows anything about this? Foley is iin trouble again for writing prescriptions for drugs, but I've heard his name mentioned in connection with a headless body found near I69 and SR13 sometime back.

When did this happen?
Who was it?
How did Foley's name get brought into it?
What lake or body of water was it?

Any other details. . . .

Remember when Ray Stevens came out with the song "The Streak"? I am pretty sure it was at that time. I dont think the head was ever found and no convictions were made in the case.

They ever identify the remains they found? Who was it?

there was another Dr involved too, .... F. Lee Bailey was also involve with this, If I remember correctly..........I think one Dr involved was a Dr. Lynn....who lost his license in the mater.....a head was surgically removed...and a body was found. Dr Foley managed to be cleared but has been well known for several years for his "liberal" use of writing prescripts for pain drugs...this was back in the late 70's.....I'm thinking but not sure but it was over by or around 53rd street and St Rd. 9/67.....but it has been years since I have thought about this....so none of this is the gospel...

I think it happened around 1969 or 70. The doctor whose name was connected with the "headless body in the lake" was Doctor Lind. Doctor Lind went to jail for a firearms violation concerning dynamite and a plumbing bill. Dr. Lind was at one time in the same medical practice with Dr. Foley and Dr. Doles in Middletown. I don't remember Dr. Foley being connected in any way with the body they found in the lake.

I can't remember what they guy's name was but I thought maybe he had some connection with the young woman who was found shot to death in her car at Linders. That may not right but it is how I remember it.

Indianapolis - Authorities are seeking to suspend the medical license of a central Indiana physician who wrote more than 96,000 prescriptions over a 3½-year period and allegedly caused or contributed to the overdose deaths of at least nine patients.

Indiana's attorney general's office will ask a state panel Thursday to suspend the medical license of Dr. Phillip D. Foley of Middletown for 90 days.

The state contends that Foley poses a "clear and immediate danger" to public health and safety. Investigators say Foley sometimes wrote several hundred prescriptions a day for painkillers, sedatives and other medications during the period between January 2005 and May 2008.

Foley's secretary said Monday he'll speak to reporters after Thursday's hearing.

Can anyone point me to any information on this headless body thing?  I seem to remember a story when I was living in Anderson about some doctor whose house was several doors down from mine on VanBuskirk and a headless corpse...

The only name I have heard surrounding the headless body identification was "Gary Lake". The "head and bullets were surgically removed from the body and the head was never found". Dr. Lind (sic?) was convicted of this.

I don't think Dr. Lind was ever convicted or charged with anything concerning the body in the lake. I will try and find some references for you.

Good luck.  The HB has nothing online and I couldn't find anything with Google or the IN. State Police.

Here's what memories I have of this.

Disclaimer:  It has been over 30 -35 years ago IIRC so don't take the details as gospel.

Victim: Gary Lake, supposed police informant.

Crime: Missing Person case turned into a Murder case - unsolved.  Body found in pond by I-69 near Pendleton, head 'surgically' removed and missing with rumors of it being in various unnamed people's freezers.

Suspects: Dr. John Lind, who was convicted on Federal drug, explosive, and firearms charges, and/or possibly one or more of Lind's various associates.

Associated cases:  The Plumb-Rite bombing.

Interesting tie-in's:  The downtown fire where striking firefighters stood by and allowed the buildings between the 800 - 900 block of Meridian to burn to the ground.  This is interesting and ties in because one of those buildings was the law office of the Mad. Co. Prosecutor where supposed records tying many important city personages and politicos to the things in which Lind was involved were destroyed.  It was rumored the fire even started there.

If it could be narrowed down to a month and year, I'd be happy to go to the library and look at microfilm.
Looks like I've come full circle.

That would probably have been Dr. Lind as both Dr. Foley and Dr. Doles lived over towards Middletown.

I remember a lake called Headless lake.  Is this any comparison to what you guys are talking about?  This "Headless lake" was surrounded by trailers.. like a trailer park area.  Does anyone know what I'm talking about?  I had a step mom who lived near that lake in a trailer before she became my step mom, and visiting her when my dad was dating was a big deal.  I heard the stories of a body found without a  head so they named it Headless lake.  We use to go fisihing at this lake.. and I hated sleeping at her house because the nights use to spook me.  Maybe it was a made up story.. who knows.
