Nah.  He deserved it.  After the last 8 years of bush stupidity and unwarranted arrogance toward the rest of the world, the very idea of obama being elected means a lot.

58% Say Politics Behind Nobel Awards, Up From 40% Last Year

Americans are much more skeptical of the motivation behind the awarding of the prestigious international Nobel Prizes following President Obama's win Friday of the Nobel Peace Prize.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that 58% of American adults now believe that politics plays a role in the awarding of the Nobel Prize. That's an 18-point jump from 40% a year ago.

Reagan is the man who should have WON the peace prize....

what is even MORE of a joke is, that he was nominated for this award back in Feb, eleven days AFTER he took office......THIS is an embarrasment to what THIS award SHOULD represent....it is OBVIOUSLY a political, left leaning JOKE.

this is why it's hard to take you seriously hank.  award is honorable if reagan wins, award is joke if obama wins.  these two thoughts were IN SERIES.

either it means something, regardless of who the recipient is, or it doesn't... again... regardless of who the recipient is.

But AWOL, I would NOT have been happy IF Reagan won it, basicly 12 days AFTER he won office.  But, when the cold war ended, after years of Reagan's policies was in place and American Pride was restored.....THEN, I think it would have been appropriate.  Honestly, Obama has only TALKED a big game.....he has done NOTHING, to invoke peace in the world.  He has abandoned Israel, in their eyes.  He has screwed over Poland and surrounding countries....He has ignored his own appointed Military advisor, who has requested 40,000 more troops, to secure us from LOSING in Afghanistan.  The Olympic committee has shunned him...AFTER he flew over there to make his PITCH......at the least they should have given him another year to prove himself, before they GAVE him this award.....at least that is the way I clearly see it.

I keep hearing all about how Obama hasn't done anything as President to warrant the Nobel Peace Prize and am still trying to figure out why the neocons think that it had to have been awarded based on the past nine months and not on his having changed the national and international dialogue before he ever took office?  Such simple, little minds...

For the haters...

A transcript of Nobel Committee chairman Thorbjorn Jagland's announcement of Obama as Peace Prize winner: The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided that the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009 is to be awarded to President Barack Obama for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples. The Committee has attached special importance to Obama's vision of and work for a world without nuclear weapons.

Obama has as President created a new climate in international politics. Multilateral diplomacy has regained a central position, with emphasis on the role that the United Nations and other international institutions can play. Dialogue and negotiations are preferred as instruments for resolving even the most difficult international conflicts. The vision of a world free from nuclear arms has powerfully stimulated disarmament and arms control negotiations. Thanks to Obama's initiative, the USA is now playing a more constructive role in meeting the great climatic challenges the world is confronting. Democracy and human rights are to be strengthened.

Only very rarely has a person to the same extent as Obama captured the world's attention and given its people hope for a better future. His diplomacy is founded in the concept that those who are to lead the world must do so on the basis of values and attitudes that are shared by the majority of the world's population.

For 108 years, the Norwegian Nobel Committee has sought to stimulate precisely that international policy and those attitudes for which Obama is now the world's leading spokesman. The Committee endorses Obama's appeal that "Now is the time for all of us to take our share of responsibility for a global response to global challenges."
