With this years influx of college freshman, I think that high school kids are seeing that the economy is taking away their fast food jobs (and I don't mean that as a slur on the youth, just that fast food has always been a stepping stone for teenagers.) and if they are going to get anywhere in the future they need to further their education.  If Obama's speech is to encourage these kids to buckle down, then the high school teens do need to hear the message.  And I hate to tell you, they are already being brainwashed concerning politics.  They listen to their parents, they listen to their parents media choices, they listen to their teachers who lecture by opinion and so on.  If they are encouraged to continue in their education, whether it be to finish high school, or to go on to college, they are being encouraged to learn, plain and simple.  Do we want a nation of drop-outs who give up on being educated to be our future?  I know I don't.
Looks like I've come full circle.

We're not pissed off at all...YOU LOST; GET OVER IT!

And by the way, Reagan hosted a group of high school students for a question and answer session at the White House in 1986 that was nationally broadcast in which he said, "When we came into office, the top personal tax rate that the federal government could put on your income was 70 percent.  Now, you can understand, I think, that if you were getting up in those brackets -- there were 14 different tax brackets, depending on the amount of money in each bracket you earned. And when you could look and say, 'If I earn another dollar, I only get to keep 30 cents out of it,' you can imagine the lack of incentive there. Well, we lowered it to 50 percent, and the economy really took off."

What is that if not blatant politics?

so we owe you one?...is that what you are saying?...

This funny as hell....you guys are really pissed, because HE WANT's to talk to our kids and the parent's don't WANT him talking to them.....guess what....Parent's get to decide on this NOT the President.

It is the PARENT's JOB to raise thier own kid...........NOT the Government place or job....

Now, like I said, IF, Obama is simply going on the air to say....'stay in school' ... 'be all you can be'....then rah, rah, sis, boom bah.....go for it.....quit getting your panties all up your crawl....IF, people don't WANT this guy speaking to thier kids while the parent's aren't around....there bigger fish to fry right now than .... the President speaking to our kids....

No but the hypocrisy of you bitching about what Obama might say is more than evident.

I could not care less if the mouth-breathers don't want their kids watching this.

It's about encouragement. Not raising someone else's kids.  Ever been in charge of a scout troop?  A sunday school class?  Do you not stand up as a leader and encourage the youth to be the best they can be then?

Am I the only one seeing a lot of irony in this thread?

again, I said it already on here several times now....I personally have NO problem with it, for my daughter.....and I really do think it is sad, that ANY President, does not have enough respect by our nation, for him to give our kids a . ... good ol pep talk.....I think, there is so much distrust with America and this POTUS....THIS is the backlash that is happening....

I think, ALL schools should make it elective to ALL kids IF they want to hear what the POTUS has to say...IF they don't then allow them to go to study tables for 15 minutes....and move on.

I think you're projecting your lack of respect onto the entire country.

Like I said, I don't care if the mouth-breathers' kids see it or not.  In fact, I hope they don't and they never get the message or a good education so there are plenty of them around to pump my kids' gas!

But that's not what your fear is.  You ARE afraid that he will be giving a speech on political issues.  You've already said that in a previous post.

I will add that as of right now, 13 isn't aware that this speech will be shown on Tuesday, here it is Friday, and I've not seen any paperwork that I need to sign in order for her to see the broadcast.  I'm wondering where my parental choice is?   Not that I'm going to prevent her from seeing it, I just wonder if it's actually being shown in every school?
