LOL! No Kidding. I used to live off Route 394 in a small town called Crete Illinois. I was in Munster often back then. Was not a very far drive from my home back then. About 6-10 miles or so. . .

LMFAO @ Mancave! Yeah, my wife is accusing me of turning our garage into one of those. If it weren't for her "smoking lounge" section it would already be one!

From the look of it you must have went across Route 30 to Dyer, or been in or near Munster off of I 80. Those border town folk can get pretty out there. I mean, look at Gary!  :spooked:

In fact I'd bet on Munster. . . It's where Illinois folks go to get lottery tix and fireworks most times. . . I believe that establishment in the picture sits on Ridge Road if I remember correctly. At the corner of Calumet Ave.???? I think it is.

My cousin said that we were on Calumet Ave, so you may be exactly right about that.

I played for what was a "semi-pro" football team in Anderson back in the early 80's..( we never got paid..so much for the semi pro..)...and we played a game in Gary once....and when we left after the game, we ALL wore our helment and equipment to the team bus....as we got pelted with rocks....it was NOT a pleasant bunch of people there.....
I have NO fond memories from that city.....

Know the place! Used to owned by a Greek family and the food was pretty good back then. Don't know about now but given the sign I'd say the same bunch prolly owns it!

You will never enjoy another slice of pie again, unless you get it in Chicago! You are now ruined. I took my wife to one of my favorite places for pizza the first time we went up there. Now we have to go there every time we go because she says nothing else is as good! We bring a couple back every time we go!

Yeah, one pretty much stays away from Gary unless you have a death wish. Ford Heights, Illinois too, which is just a bit north of Crete. Same bunch in both places! Kill a man for walking down the street. . .

Naw. . . just spent some time there is all.  You were in my old stomping grounds!  The second I saw that picture I knew where it was. . . There couldn't be more than one of those places in this state that is for sure!

Hell if I had known you were going to be in that area I'd have run up and met yah for crying out loud. (I look for any excuse to head that way for food! LOL!) That traffic on 80 sucks a big one though doesn't it?! I don't care what time you go through there.

Wife and I last went through there about 1:30 in the morning about a month ago. Wasn't as bad traffic wise at that time, but still pretty thick for a Sunday morning!

Would you have ordered the stir fry, or the physician?

Gyros and saganaki! That stuff was outstanding! (Or used to be). . .

Before you ask:

Saganaki (Greek σαγανάκι lit. 'little frying-pan') is a Greek appetizer of fried cheese.

The cheese used is usually Kefalograviera, Kasseri, Kefalotyri, or sheep's milk Feta cheese. Regional variations include the use of Formaella cheese in Arachova and Halloumi cheese in Cyprus.

The cheese is melted in a small frying-pan until it is bubbling, and generally served with lemon juice and pepper. It is eaten with bread.

In some United States, Canadian and Australian restaurants, after being fried, the saganaki is flambéed at the table (typically with a shout of "opa!") and the flames then extinguished with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice. This practice reportedly originated in the 1960s at The Parthenon restaurant in Chicago's Greektown.

Ok, since the phone number to the establishment was on the link above, I decided to make an inquiry.  ;D  So I gave them a call and a very nice lady answered the phone.

Locutus:  Hello, I have a question for you.

Woman:  Sure, how can I help you.

Locutus:  I was over by your restaurant yesterday and the sign outside said "Stir Frys and Physicians".....

< Woman starts laughing her ass off >

Woman:  Physicians Weight Loss

Locutus:  Oh, I was wondering what the connection was.  I was wondering if you were using doctors as ingredients.

< Woman continues to laugh her ass off >

Woman:  I guess there wasn't enough room on sign for the whole thing.  You're not the only one that asked.  I guess we should change it.

Locutus:  Well that might be a good idea.  Thanks for the info.

< Woman still laughing >

Woman:  Have a nice day sir!

Locutus:  You too!
