The wife and I took a short ride this past Sunday.  We ventured south this time, taking IN 63 out of Terre Haute to Merom IN  http://www.meromindiana.org/ where stopped at the park.  The town sits on a high bluff above the Wabash river overlooking part of Illinois.



63 ends at Merom, so we took IN 58 back east and picked up US 41 south.  We only went a few miles to our destination near Decker, IN and the large peach.  I wanted a shot of it for one of my AMA tours I am doing.  Not too far away is a giant strawberry, and a homemade roller coaster, but I passed on those as the 90+ temps and high humidity made riding a little less fun.  I'll catch them when it cools back down a tad.



So we headed back north via US 41 to Terre Haute and a Wendy's for a quick lunch, then on home to a cool and refreshing shower.  168 miles for this one, definitely a short ride.

I hear that! I was out Saturday most of the day, doing a central Indiana personal tour, and I thought it was bad then. I had scheduled a Sunday ride to Ohio with a group from work, but once I arrived at the meet up place it was clear to those of us still sane, that it was far too humid and hot for such a ride.  More than 1/2 of us returned to the barn for refreshments before returning home, and the rest of them went on. They are all crispy cirtters today.  :icon_twisted:

Saturday I was at Stone's HD and saw a guy pull out of the service area on a Big Dog. It was a big one too. Sharp, all chromed out and with the big engine and wide rear tire. You couldn't help but notice the guy because the bike had straight pipes on it. . . LOUD!

A little while later while passing through Marion I saw the same bike on its side near Route 15. A blue hair had pulled right out in front of him and he had to lay it down. . .  :rant: Bike was tore up but the owner just had a couple of small road rash spots. . . He was major pissed though as you can understand!

"Laying one down" is a total loss of control, but I am sure one of those bikes are not the most responsive when it comes to accident avoidance.  Too much weight, not enough brakes for the weight, wide tires hamper maneuverability.  They look bad-ass, but are not made for dicing it up with the blue hairs.

Yup. You could see the skid mark and tell the rear end had swung out around him, leaving him very little choice surrounding what to do about the hazard. . . I suspect he was cracking the throttle too, since I saw him (and heard) doing it right out of the repair shop. . .

Myself, I am over the speed thing. While I might accelerate out of a stop at times, once I achieve the posted legal speed I get off it. I am very selective surrounding when I do it too, knowing all too well how easy it is for a bluehair to come out of nowhere and present a hazard to everyone. . .

It's why I own a bagger. To cruise, not bruise!
