North Korea is threatening to wipe the US off the map. I wonder how many nuke missiles they have. They have a million man army, quite alot more than the 28,000 US servicemen in South Korea. Their missiles, which they are set to launch one of toward Hawaii, can reach the west coast. But really, could they wipe us off the map?

Hawaii is at the very end of the range of the largest missile we are aware of at this point in time, and odds are that it won't even be able to reach them. . .

Please reveal the source that supports your statement surrounding the ability to reach the western coast of the US. . . Apparently no one else has that info. . .

In fact, current intelligence indicates that they can't.  But hey, don't let that interfere with the fear-mongering.

North Korea has said it would consider interception a declaration of war and on Wednesday accused the U.S. of seeking to provoke another Korean War.

"If the U.S. imperialists start another war, the army and people of Korea will ... wipe out the aggressors on the globe once and for all," the official Korean Central News Agency said.

I think it is time, to have a word, for N Korea....and remind them, that WE DO have the capabilities to .. wipe out .. the aggressors on the globe once and for all....

Palehorse,

Actually, I have heard that "fact" about reaching the western part of the US on several evening news stories. And, that is CBS and ABC. So, that is why I was wondering.

Which would be slightly different from what dubya did....declaring war and all....with no provocation from the country he decided to invade.

What I heard was that the missle they were testing could possibly reach Alaska(?). I think maybe they would do something like try to smuggle a dirty bomb in rather than launch a missle but you never know when you have an idiot like that running a country. I don't think he would be crazy enough to drop a bomb on S Korea to hit the US there. He is probably all bluster.

I can't see President Obama threating N. Korea with a nuclear attack or any other kind of attack for that matter, at least not until we were actually attacked. It took him how many days to say we are against shooting people in the streets in Iran? If we were attacked I would hope he would have a reaction somewhere between "we don't understand their culture and should make allowances and let's nuek 'em off the face of the earth".

Ummmmmm..................

The point is that what is happening in Iran is an internal struggle. We have no right to interfere. Whatever Obama said or didn't say, did or didn't do was going to be criticized because it would be viewed as either not forceful enough on the one hand, or "meddling" on the other.

He was damned if he did and damned if he didn't.

Talking about Iran's internal struggles, however. is a far, far cry from being threatened physically.

Determining if the threat is real is the trick.

My bet is that there are people in the government and private industry who are deeply engaged in threat assessment as we discuss it on this and many other forums.

Sorry, but saying that you are against shooting people down in the streets is not exactly meddling with internal politics of another country. I don't think he should have said we favor one candidate over the other especially as he said they are very much alike, but shooting people in the street is another thing entirely.

I am sure you are right about many people assessing the treat to the US from N Korea and other areas, my point is that if we are actually attacked what will be his reaction? Would he over react or under react? Best case  would be that he would not do what he said he would do in his campaign speech. IMO that was one of the worst answers he gave to a question.

Which is an interesting point when you look at Iran's recent history.  They were well on their way to moving toward a more moderate government with absolutely no interference from us until Bush gave his 'axis of evil' speech.  The hard-liner Ahmadinejad was elected in the following election.
