"For those who may ask what they can do to honor Neil, we have a simple request. Honor his example of service, accomplishment and modesty, and the next time you walk outside on a clear night and see the moon smiling down at you, think of Neil Armstrong and give him a wink."

This man was one of my real life heroes, and one I still recall watching achieve what no man had dared dream to achieve, when I was a child.

I recall the night he walked on the moon. My family was on vacation and we were at an aunt's house near Welston Ohio. As we always did  when we visited them, we were having a campfire and roasting hot dogs on their property.

I remember my uncle running an extension cord all the way out to the campfire, and carrying out his console television, so that we could all watch the televised coverage of Armstrong's first steps on the moon. I was completely captivated, and it was all I talked about the entire three weeks we were gone.

And it is always at the forefront of my thoughts each and every time I gaze skyward at the moon.

I recall dad buying antenna cable and running it out to the pole when we got to grandma's a day later. They had a TV but never watched it. But dad made sure I could watch the splashdown.  :smitten:

Grandpa said they never landed on the moon, and that all the film was made in the desert somewhere. He was always suspicious of the government.  :smile:

RIP Mr. Armstrong. Thank you for inspiring the world by your achievements, and for the exemplary way in which you dealt with the accolades. You remain a real life hero to me and I dare say, millions of others in this place.  :'(
