unless the fine investigative reporters over at the WND are going to show us the donations of the ones who are remaining open, this is nothing more than the sort of laughable propoganda that website is known for.

You can't honestly believe there was some political vendetta over a Chrysler dealer who donated a couple hundred bucks??

Furor grows over partisan car dealer closings

Here's a quote from your article. I DO read these things, NOT just headlines.

"The Auto Prophet - an anonymous engineer working for one of the Detroit automakers - is skeptical of the suggestion that political considerations are playing a role in White House car czar decisions on which Chrysler dealers are to be shuttered.

A more likely explanation is simply the fact that more Chrysler dealers in general are likely to be Republican contributors, which would mean more of the closed dealers would be seen to be GOP supporters than Democrat supporters: "My hypothesis is that Chrysler dealers, being small businessmen, are more likely to donate to Republicans than Democrats, for predictable reasons. Like any small businessmen, car dealers want lower taxes, a lower minimum wage, fewer regulations, etc."

Bo, that may very well be the reason.....

Thanks, Henry. Yeah .. I mean if you think about it ... if there are 10 dealers and 9 are owned by Republicans and they have to close seven of them, what are they going to do?

Such "furor" doesnt even stand up to the test of common sense. I guaran-damn-tee that there are Chrysler dealerships staying open that contributed much more than what some of the closed ones did. (I mean, come on, some of those closed dealers donated 200 bucks to the RNC.)

LOsborne

Griff stated the obvious in his first reply. Unless you can compare the percentage of those who donated to the GOP against those who donated to the dems in the entire list of pre-bankruptcy dealerships, the percentage of GOP contributors in the closed dealerships is meaningless.

I can see what you are saying. But wouldn't everyone be shocked if 90% of the dealers were Republican? What would that say about Dems? Surely, there are some that are businessmen and women.

I think I'll test that one

"If" is jokingly called the biggest word in the dictionary. Let me use it in a sentence to demonstrate...

If I had been dropped on my head, from the roof-top of the tallest building, then I'd think the World Nut Daily is a reliable source.1

1I know the WND isn't the only source of this meaningless "tidbit"  - that was intended to be a witty example ;D

Averages can be equally misleading. My favorite ...

As long as people like garbagegirl and hank are around, these kinds of stories will keep coming out from the rightwingnut propagandists.  Of course, there will always be NASCAR and "pro" raslin, as well.

And here I thought I'd pop in here and read insane reasoning and speculation. . . but no! Clarity and reason prevail!
