Quote from: Henry Hawk on May 06, 2009, 12:57:02 PMI can think of several reasons WHY it 'could possibly' be a BAD thing....

Well then, spit 'em out. Let's hear them.

NOPE, I aske you first!...Tell me WHAT good things that our Government has the reason to do this?....I'm being quite serious Bo...patronize me...and TELL ME.

Nope. You made a vague reference "I can think of several reasons WHY it 'could possibly' be a BAD thing...." and then asked me to get specific. That's a little bass-ackwards isn't it?

OK. I'll play your little game ....

"By taking advantage of no long-form requirements for the 2010 Census, coupled with access to current data from the ACS for targeting areas requiring special attention to improve coverage, the potential cost and accuracy of the 2010 short-form-only census can be greatly improved. Add to this the availability of a fully GPS-aligned MAF/TIGER system allowing for a dramatic reduction in field infrastructure costs resulting mostly from a near elimination of paper and the huge staff and space required to handle that paper, we have the potential to completely restructure the data collection, data capture and data processing of Census 2010. This will result in a census that is more focused on coverage issues, less operationally risky and less costly. "

I'm NOT playing a game Bo...I wanted YOUR opinion....not a copied and past reason....from the census bureau..

and the reason CB gave is a bogus reason to do this in the next 90 days...

Guys, again, I will rephrase my question.....WHY do you think this is a valid thing to do?....do you not see potential harm, from a too powerful Government?...maybe this does not have enough "merit" for you Ex...it seems like you always have your little ways to dodge any direct question you don't want to answer.

Why not copy and paste from the Census Bureau site? I happen to agree with every word.

especially "less costly."

Your turn!

Guys, again, I will rephrase my question.....WHY do you think this is a valid thing to do?

Because it increases the accuracy of the survey.

Quote....do you not see potential harm, from a too powerful Government?...

In addition to BoD havingpointed out to you about a million times now that this information is available through Google Earth, every property has a survey filed with its county or township assessor's office that includes the logitudinal and latitudinal coordinates for that property.  Where is the 'potential harm' from the government collecting information to which they already have access?

Quote...maybe this does not have enough "merit" for you Ex...it seems like you always have your little ways to dodge any direct question you don't want to answer.

I answered your question; it just seems like you have a way of ignoring the answer if it doesn't fit your little whack-job rant.

It may be on the up and up....but to rush into doing this within a 90 day period...is never a good thing...but one thing, I don't particulary want big bro being able to see when I'm leaving and when I'm home..this HAS a lot of potential to violate privacy.....are not you guys bent out of shape because Gov wanted to listen to phone conversations?

I ask you again!!!!!!!! How does a GPS coordinate allow ANYONE to "see when I'm leaving and when I'm home" ? ? ? ? ?

Your privacy ends when you walk out into public.  If big bro wants to see when you leave and come home, he can sit in the street in front of your house and watch you and there's nothing you can do about it.

Don't they already have satellites that can do that?  Am I paranoid?

very much ON topic Bo...heck we can go on google and get a somewhat picture of anyplace in teh world...but it is not real time...

Now, you know darn well our gov has access to real time "google earth' technology...I'm sure much better....now, all they have to do is zoom in on anyone they want....and gather ANY info they want, without you or I knowing about it.

It is very much the same topic....but much worse.

Honestly, anyone who sees the government having access to the GPS coordinates to his home (that they've had anyway since before there was GPS) as more intrusive than the government listening to his phone calls is beyond having a rational discussion with.

I'd worry about if they can zoom in with heat sensors and see what position I might be in at the moment in my house.

I still wanna know if I'm paranoid.

LOL.....hey, I've heard that just because I think they are out to get me, doesn't mean they aren't!!

And why would they?   For grins and giggles....to kill time....because they are bored.  They'd still be bored if they chose my house though.

And what is the world does that have to do with the census and GPS technology? As EX  pointed out before, the government already has the GPS coordinates on file with the deed to your house. And AGAIN, the GPS coordinates the census will gather is the location of your house, NOT YOU OR ANY PERSON!!!!!!

Now can you just settle down and list some legitimate concerns with the Census Bureau knowing the location of your house?
