Can anyone tell me why it is ok to go to war in Afghanistan but not Iraq. I would like to hear your opinions on this.
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

An afghan is a blanket.  I don't think it's ever appropriate to go to war in a blanket.
Arguing with Christians is like playing chess with a pigeon.  No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon is just going to knock over the pieces, shit on the board and strut around like it's victorious.

The truth is slow, but relentless. Over time it becomes irresistible.

Afghanistan is the home base of the rag-headed evil doers that knocked down those two buildings in the big apple, and master minded 9/11. It was the main theater of operations before we got side tracked with that litterbox in Iraq.

Iran is a political hotbed of diplomacy, with it basically being considered the "seat of the middle-east". They hold an important position in international energy security and the world economy as a result of its large reserves of petroleum and natural gas. As Iran goes so goes the price of oil and gas.

Iran is bordered by Afghanistan on the east and so their support in this theater of operations, or at least a commitment to remain neutral, is important to the long term success of the operation.

Iraq. I'd sure like to know why we're there . . . What they told us wasn't the case.

Ultimately has to be about maintaining some sort of control over the oil fields, doesn't it? We can't maintain the pretense of "friendship" with Saudi Arabia forever; they aren't friends or allies of the U.S. When the house of cards collapses, we'll need a new oil-rich partner. Plus, we need their clout to play off against Iran, Afghanistan, and Pakistan, all of which could turn against us on a moment's notice. It may be that the State Dep't. thinks the new Iraqi gov't. can be persuaded to maintain some indifference, rather than overt hostility, toward Israel. JMO.

Then Why exactly are we going to afghanistan???????

We are tooling around the Afghan sandbox (gravelbox?) ostensibly in search of "Taliban insurgents", those bogeymen of the 21st century who have supplanted Nazis and outlaw bikers in our public consciousness as vicious enemies to be feared and hated. We are hunting them rather tentatively in Afghanistan because we don't want to incur the wrath of that country in general -- remember how they handled the Russians. We do so because our government is either unwilling or unable to go hunt them in Pakistan or Saudi Arabia, which is their REAL stomping grounds.
