Your title is not really indicative of what that article says; now is it?  So are you illiterate or just a liar?

The leader of the nation's largest veterans organization says he is "deeply disappointed and concerned" after a meeting with President Obama today to discuss a proposal to force private insurance companies to pay for the treatment of military veterans who have suffered service-connected disabilities and injuries. The Obama administration recently revealed a plan to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) in such cases.

Why would the American Legion oppose this?  It is not as if they are not going to receive coverage.

They oppose it because Obama's plan is going to effect the veterans....

Because Veteran Affairs was set up to take care of our military veterans. The insurance mafia will find ways to not pay or pay for long on these claims. We have always taken care of our veterans disabilities and wounds. Think HMO when you think about the insurance companies handling these claims.  It is a slap in the faces of the military. I do have one question though. If they do this will the President and his staff then get treatment at regular hospitals, under the rules of Insurance companies and not at the military bases??
Thats my story and I'm sticking to it!

How?

What's interesting to me is how some (Republicans particularly) are all about privatization when it suits them, but against going to the private sector to recuperate funds in this instance.  As Kimmi pointed out, and unless I missed something, this won't affect the veterans nor will it affect their coverage.

this does AFFECT the private sector.. Obama is trying to require private insurance carriers to reimburse the Department of Veterans Affairs.....so it can pay for his pet projects....this is the ONE thing that our constitution is supposed to do....is provide a Military...and along with that they should be taking care of them....our taxpayers put them in harms way.....by God, those in Washington make sure THEY are covered under the taxpayers dollar...

It's 'affect' and since you're not a veteran, it shouldn't be any concern of yours.

thanks for the grammer lesson... ;)

I may need to work on my grammer, but you need to get a clue....simply because I am not a veteran has nothing to do with my respect for them.....and I have nothing but gratitude to ALL those in the military.....

you are an ass, btw...just in case i have not told you recently...

Being a veteran only does not qualify you to have an opinion when the pres is screwing up. I have generations of veterans in my family since the civil war and some that did not come home. If we don't take care of our veterans, what does that say about us? I don't even want to think about it. Whereas the pres has only been in office for a little while I think we should give him room. But, when he is tragically wrong and what he plans affects us all then I think we have a right, no a a responsibility to speak up. JMO

Just as I feel the responsibility to speak up when I think your spelling or grammar are tragically wrong.
