Inouye: U.S. may need second stimulus plan
Pacific Business News (Honolulu)
"possible second stimulus package"
U.S. Sen. Dan Inouye said Tuesday the federal government may have to jolt the economy with a second stimulus package.

Inouye, a Hawaii Democrat who is chairman of the Senate Appropriations Committee, was in Honolulu to meet with legislators to discuss the $678 million the state will receive under the stimulus package signed Tuesday by President Obama in Denver.

Inouye said it is becoming increasingly clear that a second blast of federal spending may be needed to jar the economy out of recession.

"That's discussion item No. 1 now in Washington," Inouye told reporters. "Some people are calling this bill the stimulus No. 1."

With only about $50 billion of the $787 billion stimulus measure earmarked for big infrastructure projects like highway construction, some economists have said the spending won't be sufficient to put people back to work and get the economy growing.

"I must say, to a certain degree I agree with that," Inouye said.

You two better go see an eye doctor, because everything I've read on this included the qualifiers that this is just a "first step" and "additional action" will be necessary. . .

Don't go into a frenzy!

I just think it's dumb for him to even think about another one at this stage of the game.  Don't sound like he has a lot of confidence in this one to even think about another one in passing. Ooooorrrrrrr.....he just wants some more of that "free" money.

Apparently some of Senator Inouye's pork didn't make the final draft of the current legislation. </sarc>
