Ind. Senate OKs online license renewal bill

The Associated Press

INDIANAPOLIS — The Indiana Senate has unanimously approved a bill that would allow driver's licenses renewals to be done online or through the mail.

Democratic Sen. Earline Rogers of Gary wants Indiana to join 25 other states that provide the same license renewal options. Rogers says online license renewal is one of the services most requested of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Under the bill, most Hoosiers could renew their licenses online or by mail if they had no name or address change to report and the license was not suspended or expired. Only drivers under age 75 who had most recently renewed their license in person at a BMV branch could use the new options.

The bill now moves to the House for consideration.

The state of Illinois had this 12 years ago!

For a state that is trying so hard to be like everyone else, (yes I am still bitter over the clock games decision), we sure are turtle-like in our response time!

I'm for anything that will keep me from having to put up with going to the license branch.  I will have to say that they have cut the wait time down considerably from what it used to be though.

I guess as long as they can see which key to hit on the computer, they will see good enough to drive   I know our piddly vision test does not amount to much, but I'd hate to think about all the Magoo's out there if we didn't have it.
