Another Tax Problem for Obama Nominee

February 03, 2009 10:28 AM

The informal battle between members of the Obama Administration and the Taxman resulted in a casualty Tuesday, with news that President Obama's nominee to be chief performance officer, Nancy Killefer, will withdraw her nomination following the revelation that she had a $946.69 lien on her property in 2005 for failure to pay taxes.

Killefer, who was announced to much fanfare by President Obama on Jan. 7 to serve in the new position to make the U.S. government "more effective, more efficient, and more transparent," is the third high-level Obama Administration official whose failure to pay taxes in recent years was disclosed in the past month.

But at least they can spell taxes.

Bush had the same problem with finding cabinet nominees who had paid their taxes. What is it with these people?

I have a tax problem as well. . . Does this mean I'm on the short list of administration candidates?

The taxman answers to no one and will take your life to settle your debt. . . Don't doubt that.

And Obama hasn't? Everyday when I pick up my Washington Post, it's been blasted all over the front page and the editorial pages.

He absolutely should be blasted for it. I would think that there should be a more thorough vetting process.

But then again if his nominees don't tell the truth or aren't entirely forthcoming, then that's another matter.

But once he does find out, he has a tendency to stand by his nomination a little to strongly.

I would throw the bums out.

But judging from past presidents' problems, I am wondering if it's possible to find an honest nominee.

Only if they pick one who hasn't been in politics for any length of time and then it would be risky.

Politics is just like religion; the only reason humankind engages in either one of them is to obtain personal wealth and power!
