ONLINE registrations for white supremacy group the Ku Klux Klan (KKK) have significantly increased following Barack Obama's presidential win, a former KKK leader says.

Johnny Lee Clary, a former imperial wizard, the highest-ranked member of the KKK, said the current global financial crisis and political change in the United States were fuelling Klan membership for the first time in decades.

"It's serious, serious enough that the FBI ... and other law enforcement agencies are trying to get on top of it because the klan has made direct threats to Obama," pastor Clary, who now fights against the group as a born-again Christian, said.

At one recent rally in Alabama, more than 300 people signed up, a number he said was "unprecedented".

"They (KKK) actually sent me an email just the other day and were telling me that Barack Obama was the best thing that ever happened to them and they're excited and happy because their membership is growing larger than it ever has," he said.

Aren't the Democrats the one with Senator Byrd, a super senior citizen who was a KU KLUX KLAN HONCHO back in the day? Don't believe Republicans or Independents have anyone of his stripes aboard.

Yep he sure was but they kind of keep that hush hush.

IIRC, Byrd endorsed Obama.

A Senator's Shame

The man made a mistake, but he's done a lot of good in his 90 years as well. I think we can cut him a break.

As for the Klan's increasing numbers, there's simply no accounting for the number of backwards-assed idiots in the country...although I'm sure the secret service is trying.

Oh, a dem can make a mistake and be forgiven but a Republican can't. All Trent Lott did was give a speech at Strom Thrumond's retirement and was vilified for it.  He even had to give up his post.

The KKK are stupid people...they need imprisoned or tortured at least....oh my bad..that's right...we no longer torture now do we? CAN WE MAKE AN EXCEPTION FOR THEM?
Byrd was a mamber..but is no longer..glad he got some good sense finally and got out of that "gang"..
That's all the KKK is..another gang...

And I say again a dem can do the deed and be forgiven and all a Republican has to do is give a speech at a retirement dinner get vilified and drummed out of congress.  Where is the fairness in that?  Trent Lott had an otherwise clean slate and even apologized, which I think was totally unnecessary, and the dems still screamed foul.  What a crock.

First Amendment....ain't it great.  Although the KKK are ass backward scum with no place in civilized society....they still get there say.  Maybe Obama should do his second sit down interview with them.

IMO both the KKK and the Black Panther's should be put on a slow boat to China.

Nah.

They're o.k.

Except that they're just a little left of the rushman.

They need to get a little more hard line.

Not enough extremism.

Where did I say that we should cut him a break because he's a democrat. Someone brought up Byrd...until you did... nobody brought up Lott...should we examine every senator on both sides and determine who is potentially racist and who is worthy of being forgiven?

I simply said that we should cut him a break because of his age and his positive contribution, if you'd feel better holding his feet to the fire for the few minutes he has left because he's a democrat...feel free.

As for Lott, he resigned - that was his choice.

Not everything is about you, Eggo.  me made an observation, an accurate observation, and you think it is about you.  And as usual you misstate what occurred.

Obama's new tax cheats would have been hanged by the media if Bush had appointed them.  Everybody who will see, can see.

Oh silly me, her comment was in response to my comment - she quoted it and everything, so I assumed it was directed to me. Perhaps when you have more time you can enlighten us on how this is really supposed to work. In the meantime, why don't you and "me" do some research and find one place where ANYone said that he should be forgiven because he's a democrat. Personally, I think you both suffer from Party Persecution Complex.

As for Obama, he won't be given a free pass by the media and those who will see, can see.
