Poll: Positive Feelings For Michelle Obama

A new CBS News/New York Times poll out Sunday finds that Americans feel largely positive towards incoming first lady Michelle Obama - more positive, in fact, than they have about past incoming first ladies.

Care to elaborate Anne?

I like Michelle Obama.  She is highly intelligent.  She appears to be a good mom.  She also has great fashion sense!

You are right Kimmi, she is by all accounts intelligent (I still don't understand how she justifies Rev. Wright with her intelligence though), appears to be a good mom, IMO she has about as much fashion sense as Mrs. Kruchev had (which is really immaterial except for the impression she makes for our country). My problem is that to me she comes off as snooty, condescending, and as having little love of this country.

Interesting. I don't get that impression at all.  I guess we chalk it up to perspective!

Guess so. I liked both Mrs Laura Bush and Mrs. Barbara Bush, (Barbara the best). Didn't care a lot for Mrs. Regan or Mrs. Carter. Won't even talk about Mrs. Clinton.

Actually, to me she comes across as very down to earth and approachable and so did Barbara and Laura Bush. Barbara didn't know how to dress, but I liked her because of it. As for Laura, she's seems intelligent also, but given that, I can't explain her choice of husband. She really married beneath her.

She does have that in common with Mrs. Barbara Bush. At least Mrs. Bush had the good sense to listen to someone when it came to clothes she wore to public appearances. Too bad Mrs. Obama didn't do the same on Tuesday. The yellow/green thing, imo, was a terrible color choice and the coat looked like it didn't fit her at all. The gown was a poor choice for dancing, she was messing with the skirt all the time and all the little flowers made it look like a prom dress for an 18 year old, which she definitely is not. President and Mrs. Obama did look like a devoted couple during all the festivities though and other than her clothes I thought the day went well and gave a good impression.

Personally, I wish we'd have a first lady who would tell all of the fashion police to go jump in the lake. Who really cares what she wears and where she buys it from? I think she'd present a better image if she were more like most American women who dress, be it casual or for business, in a manner which she's comfortable with, rather than being concerned w/a specific designer or latest style.

Besides, clothes do not make the man or the woman.

It doesn't make the person, but it certainly sends a message to other countries. Can you imagine meeting a head of state at an official event in your workout clothes? May be a bad example, but you get my drift.

That's not what I'm saying. I'm talking personal dresser/designer versus wearing the appropriate clothing for the occasion based on personal preference.

At any rate, I meant to mention this last night -

How sweet was it that little Sasha gave her dad a thumbs up? They honestly seem like the happiest family.

It was cute. I thought the older one (is that right) was so typical taking pictures. Reminded me of my grandkids.
