I was watching a program about Elvis. It was his wife and her parents talking about his life.

I'm not tryin' to crush any Elvis fans here but something she and her parents said didn't sit well with me.

Her dad said "I had a problem at first with those two because she was only 14 years old and Elvis was 24 years old."

Now to one of us if it had been our daughter we'd be yelling pedophile!

Her parents were afraid she'd hate them for the rest of their life(their reason for allowing it).

So because they allowed it then he's just another guy or is he considered a pedophile?

Yes I'm well aware he's deceased, but that doesn't change how I look at a 14 year old being the lover of a 24 year old.  :spooked:

Then you have R Kelly who slept with an underaged girl and was called a rapist, pedophile, people were shouting not to buy his music,or listen to it,not to go too any of his concerts,....

The difference is that girl lied about her age and her parents didn't allow the "make out" evening or what?

To me they are both wrong.

Ok I allow my 16 year old son to date a 26 year old woman. ~NOT GONNA HAPPEN!~

I'm going to borrow CC for a minute here.

CC allows her 16 year old daughter to date a 26 year old man. ~NOT GONNA HAPPEN!~

Not only are you all thinking or going to say me and her a dumb moms, but what else would you say about the whole situation?

I agree!  The thought of a 14 year old and a 24 year old is gross to me!

A different time and place I guess.

I see what you're saying about different times, but was it not a law back then?

I don't know.  I guess there were probably too many shotgun weddings in the south to have a law!

yeah...older men always seem to marry much younger women back in the day...look at Loretta Lynn...she was 13 when she married 21 year old Mooney Lynn......and pregnant at 14.

Watch the movie "Bubba Hotep".  It tells the true story of Elvis and is becoming a cult classic.

Supposedly, Elvis didn't sleep w/Priscilla until she reached her 18th birthday. I remember when I first read that and I thought, "yeah right". If that were so, then why was it necessary for him to move her to the U.S. before then?

Honestly, I agree with AW. Elvis would have just gone away mad. There's NO way I would allow my 14 year old daughter to date a 24 year old nor move to another country w/him. I don't care how famous he is.

I don't know.  Wasn't it the 50's?  Definately different times. My grandmother married my grand father when she was 15 and he was 22.  They had their first child when she was 17 and my father when she was 19.  The year they married, I believe was 1934.

I don't believe a man falling in love with one teenager makes him a pedophile.   I believe though, if it's real love, he'll wait until she's of age before he pursues her.

My 2nd daughter was 17, and she fell in love with a 22 year old.  4 years later they married.   I'm probably not the best example to borrow from.  She's the only child I've had that even looked at someone older than her as a teenager.
Looks like I've come full circle.

In the eyes of the law today, the date that matters, it does indeed make him a pedophile. If he were hauled before the court he would be a registered sex offender.

Yes how many of those 18 or 19 year old boys that get charged with it because they slept with their 16 year old girlfriend and her mom got pissed!!

No matter one teen or two. No 14 year old knows anything about being a 24 year olds "lover."
