Happy 238th!

If he were alive today he would be playing Keyboards for Yes!

Dude....yeah...I just saw that on another thread! WOW!

How does it feel to share a b'day with the (IMHO) the greatest composer ever?

Did you know the story about the 9th Symphony?

By the time he wrote it, he was totally, stone-cold DEAF!

And the first time it was performed in public, HE CONDUCTED! RADICAL!!!!!!

Well...it was quite a punk piece for the time and at first the audience didn't know what to think. But as it went on they recognized they were in the presence of PURE GENIUS!!!!

And when it was finished, they erupted in a thunderous standing ovation!!!!!

But poor ol' dude Ludwig had his back to the audience (as a conductor would) and couldn't hear a thing.

His first violinist got up, and with tears in his eyes, gently turned the dude around so he could see the adulation.

Man......greatest story in music.

Did you also know why the CD was standardized at 73 minutes?

So that the Ninth Symphony could fit on a single CD!

Good lord...I love his music!

WHEW!!!!!!

Great story, my friend.

I share your love of his music. Curiosity drove me to listen to it as a wee lad because of shared day of birth, and time made me fond of it! Great info and story dude! Thanks for sharing it!  8)
