I've heard the rumor recently that JR is talking about shutting down Kroakerheads. If he does, the last of the downtown bars will be gone. The Meridian Street Bar & Grill closed at the end of last year. Only the Eagles and Knights of Columbus lodges will be left, and both of them have been struggling for years. Sad.

I'm hoping the Eagle's is doing a turn around.  Seems to be more people going now and they're actually doing things to help generate income.  They have started serving meals again and are having both bands and DJ's.

Went to the Eagles once to see the Glen Miller band.  Good music.  This has be many years ago and the inside of the building seem awfully ran down.  Also it was hard to find a parking  place.  I hope they survive, but they sure have a hard hill to climb.  I'll bet they will have to move if they haven't already.

Don't know where it was when you went but it's on Meridian now and not all that bad inside.  There is plenty of parking in the lot behind them off of Jackson that used to belong to McDonald's which has moved across the street.

Like I said it was years ago and all of the stores and lots were full of business.   Maybe it was the lighting and the high ceiling's.  I know they had a large crowd and we had a good time.

You were probably in the upstairs which is closed now.  I've heard it used to be a real nice place and there are a lot of things still up there.  All that's open now are the main and lower floors.

After thinking about it, I think we walk up a large staircase.  The room was very large.

That was the ball room.  Hubby was up there a long time ago and says it is fascinating.

"ME" did you ever go to the Shamrock, The Caboose, Kayedid, the Stables and one of the best places to go was the UAW Local 662 Club out on the by-pass.  But I know you never went there for the live music.

I was at the Stables once with my ex and some friends from Muncie but I don't remember who was playing.  Never was in the Samrock or the union club though.  Was in the Caboose in the 90's 'cause some friends played there quite a bit.  I didn't move to Anderson until the mid 60's.

The upstairs ballroom has been closed for a long time. The last time your old man and I were up there it was a disaster.

The Katydid!  Thanks Troll, that was one of the downtown bars I had been trying to remember.

How about the Saratoga and the Trade Winds or Jim Manley's Big 4?

The Stables was a hopping place back in the day. I was first in the Caboose way back when it was a railroadmen's dive. One of the places you could get carry out at 16.

A fascinating disaster though from what I understand.

I know you could get a drink if you were underage there.  I started going there when I was 19.  One night I walk in and my bartender said, you look happy to night.  I said I was, I turned 21 today.  Well, I was wonder how old you were and he laughed.  Good times in Anderson.

I don't remember Jim Manley's Big 4.  Where was it at, I thought I covered every bar in Anderson.  Even the Cedar Lounge, that was not a place where white boys go.  Thank goodness I was with a black friend.
