Are you proud of America?....
Yes or No?.....simple question, for now, let's not elaborate......just, are you proud of America?
I'll start....
Yes.
Yes and No.
Ill say yes.
but after the "for now" portion is over, Id like to elaborate.

:ditto:
Why is it so hard for your YES to mean YES and your NO to mean NO... ;D
It's like it hurts some people to simply say "I am proud to be an American".....I understand, politicians and business' can make you NOT proud of them...but, simply has a Nation...........despite the differences of opinions...................THIS IS A GREAT COUNTRY...
I despise the liberal movement........ the socialistic tendencies that keep surfacing.....the entitlement mentality.......the anti-God talk......but, I am 100% pleased to live in this nation.....and gladly call myself an American....(Lee Greenwood kicks in quietly in the background :fireworks: :music1: )

But that's not what your original question was. You're stating here that you're proud to be an American (as in the song), but your original question was "Are you proud of America?" And my answer is, not always.

Fair enough....I think we can ALL think of something that we may have done that wasn't "the RIGHT thing to do" or not everybody agreed upon something....... but overall....pound for pound....I think this is by far the greatest land in the world...

No doubt. But we could be even greater if we would 'fess up' to our past atrocities instead of sweeping them under the rug or rationalizing them.
We have done some terrible things, dude! i.e. The Trail of Tears.

I 1000% agree.....that one was an atrocity...and there HAS been some measures taken to offer apologies (
big whoop  ), and, I'm sure we can bring up hundreds of other events that are just as horrible..........but, I'd be willing to bet there are multitudes more wonderous events and "great things" to arise from the people of this country than of those autrocities....
personaly, I'm getting pretty tired of people who seem ungrateful or ashamed what this country has done for not only it's own people, but for the people of this world.
Wounded Knee was no picnic, either.
Let me answer a second time. Yes, I am proud to be an American, but I am not proud of some of the Bozos running things and the things they have done. Sorry to elaborate, but some things cannot be answered simply yes or no.

Yes.
1. It's NOT a 'simple' yes/no question - for numerous reasons.
2. I want to know two things. a) Why you think it's a simple yes/no question? b) Why you appear to be claiming an all-encompassing pride in America?
the pros way out perform the cons.............YES, that simple....I AM PROUD of what our country does and stands for..........despite the enemies within.........
once you qualified your own answer to the question you invalidated it as you asked it hank.

No, I answered it without reservation...................I AM PROUD OF AMERICA....period!
why is it so hard to say?

A) yes or no?................i really don't see the difficulty there.
B) I am proud to live in a country, where despite our vast differences on many levels...............we can still work, eat, sleep, commute, chat.............and usually despite these differences...still be civil and friendly.............we have a beautiful land, with opportunities to do as we want...............though we still have rocks in the road....we have the freedoms to have rock removed or able to go around them......I 100% love my life and the opportunities that this country has allowed me to have......................why is this hard to admit and claim? I can go on and on about the whys if you want me to...

No, I answered it without reservation....
really? then what's this?
QuoteI despise the liberal movement........ the socialistic tendencies that keep surfacing.....the entitlement mentality.......the anti-God talk......
or this?

did you bang your head against something?.....
did i not say that we live in a country with vast differences......but we still get along?..........
seriously........what is your point?............awol?........why do you try to play perry mason on here and try to nail me on something....
I stand behind my words...........I am proud of America...............not so proud of some of it's people..........but, this COUNTRY...dang straight i am...
Why can't you say it?..............cause liberal are trained to think...........america ..is..BAD.. imo
Quote from: Henry Hawk on April 17, 2008, 12:50:34 PM
liberal [sic] are trained to think
what does that mean that conservatives are trained for?

You don't see the difficulty because you don't choose to.
Just look through this thread, people have pointed out reasons.
I'm proud of our Constitution, but not what we've done with it.
I'm not proud of innumerable things Americans have allowed our government to do in our name, up to and including the two armed conflicts this country is involved in now where our president usurped power and congress abdicated power.
Many of the things you refer to can be said of any country whose basis is that of Western Civilization, that is Greco-Roman roots and the rule of law.
Therefore, that doesn't make this country either something truly different or something 'special', as in the eyes of god.
I'd like to be prouder of this country...unfortunately I don't see that happening.

that is the best answer that i have heard yet....not that i 100% agree, but I actually follow your logic on this one.
