Title: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: Sunny on October 10, 2006, 08:30:58 PM
My hair, is the question.

I had the notion that when I turned 30 I would keep it short...well, been there & done that. Just didn't look right. So, it's currently all one length, straight & falls to the middle/lower part of my back.

Problem? IMO, it doesn't quite look professional...so, I feel I need to do SOMETHING with it.

I'm so out of the fashion loop -- what's "In" right now? Curly - Straight - Layers. Not that I want to be a beacon of Fashion...just curious.

Thanks for taking this seriously...it's quite perplexing.

Well, from a very biased perspective I'll admit to up front, I say no way! No cutting! At least not radically anyway.

I do so enjoy seeing a beautiful woman with long hair. . . Of course, I'm a man and all that. . .

Well, thank you for an honest opinion, PH...my husband doesn't really help - says "whatever makes ya happy". Grrrr!

Just having a moment.

Not more than an inch at a time.  There's what they call a "shag" here which is not a real layered look...or maybe it's layered...at any rate, it's just the back area which varies in length, and it doesn't come up that far....if your hair has waves to it, it could do the trick...I've seen it done with women whose hair is below shoulder length and it looks good...but don't cut it short....it's going to be winter, soon, Sunny!

I've been letting mine grow too. For a long time I had it cut to just about shoulder length and I like long bangs, but I'm letting it grow so that I can find a new do. The problem is my hair is so thick that it's annoying. I've always had it kind of long, but having it on my neck now bugs me. Weird how we change.

You can keep your hair all one length and put it up for a professional look.  I saw the new do for me the other day and I got the name of the hairdresser from the lady. Basically long, but cut in long layers.  The way it was cut she could easily scrunch it for a wavy/curly look or style it for a more "straight" look. The bangs were long and wispy and blended nicely with the front sides of her hair.

I did the 'breakup' haircut earlier this year and I HATE it!!!

I'm now growing it back out into what my stylist calls a Reverse Bob. It's shorter on top (not a lot) and longer underneath.

Now if I could just get my hair to grow at a quicker rate.  :sm69:

So my advice about this topic - No Cut!!!

You're absolutely right...and I've done this a few times in my life -- and almost always regretted it. It certainly grows back, but for me it takes 2 or 3 years. Every woman on this forum will attest that you go thru all of those "in between" & awkward stages... :-\

Didn't you have a picture posted on Hey Martha after you got it cut?!? From what I recall, you looked quite confident with your new look. I'll have to check out the "reverse bob"...but I'm sure you're pulling it off very well.

I think I'm on the same page as you two - Cookie & Mojo -- I just need to find a happy medium, with some long layers & a few longer bangs...my husband also liked my hair curly (a la perm), but that's so hard on the hairl.

Picture hunting I'll go...

At's why it's good to be a guy. No worries about short or long hair. Just cut it. If I don't like it, it'll grow back out and we'll cut it again. Haircuts are not a big deal.

Hmmmmmm.......................unless you're a Rastafarian, mon.

Don't do it. I keep falling into that trap over and over and over. I always said I would NOT be one of those elderly or middle aged women with long hair...but, you know what, i probably will be. So what? It doesn't seem as "tabu" as it once did, for whatever reason.

If you want, cut it but not too short. I compromise...its never shorter than chin length, never longer than just past my shoulders. Best of both worlds.

I was looking forward to your input, Daisy! Same as you, I didn't think I'd want to have longer hair when I got older.

Funny story -- after I had my first daughter (4 years ago), I thought it was "time" and in a moment of despair, I got it all cut off! I thought it would make me feel better, and partially cancel out the feelings of having 20lbs of post-baby weight.

Well, now that I've finally lost those 20lbs, plus the weight I put on with my second child 2 years ago, I look at pictures from back then and realize how terrible the hair (and I) looked!

Think I'll keep the length & get some layers...

Good idea. I'd show you the "Princess Di" cut I accidentally got in a moment of prenatal crisis about 4 years ago, but I was pregnant and my face is bigger than the Great Pumpkin.

I have some that I know I should shred, but I just refuse to do that. My grandma always tore up pictures of herself she thought were bad, and now that she's gone, I wish she hadn't done that. Any pictures of here were good pictures.

Before children...mid-length, layered with bangs:

After 1st child, very short, razored:

Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...

I don't know about Sunny, but I've decided NOT to cut. I'm going to let my hair grow back out past my shoulders, and its all inspired by Sunny's pictures with her hair up. I've decided I like mine up in a twist and clip again, and longer hair makes it easier to not pull it so tight and ugly up against my head.

I'm going under the scissors tommorow. I can't take this hair anymore! My hair is long, past my shoulders and so thick and heavy. It just looks ... lifeless. I keep it clipped up all the time, because I can't stand it on my neck...it's too hot.  I'm still going to keep the length, but I want it layered and thinned out some and I'm getting my bangs back.
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: Sunny on October 19, 2006, 09:02:01 AM
I'm still perplexed...I am torn between waiting until I move away from the humidity & leave it all one length to see if I want to cut it or if I should bite the bullet & get it layered with bangs, knowing how long it took me to grow it all out.

I've been debating on bangs, too. Not thick heavy ones or anything, but since I keep a side part, I want bangs to match...oh hell, i dont know how to describe it! Just a angled line of bangs or something. Sheesh.

Okay, done! Now,  I don't need to do my crunches because that was at least 10 lbs of hair. OMG too much hair!  She did a great job and I really really like it. I have my long bangs and layers. It's just a a little longer than shoulder length and layered to curl under, out or scrunch.

This is the 1st time that I've gone to her. Very friendly and beautiful hair. She looked 40 and admitted she's almost 60. The only down-side...she is a smoker and it wasn't strong, but I could smell it on her and now I swear my hair smells kinda smokey, but I know it's just me. I don't know when I became so sensitive to that.

Well I don't know if you can tell by any picture I've ever posted, but I have a widow's peak hairline. I hate it insanely, but I'm stuck with it...so a lot of side part styles look strange on me without bangs to hide the peak. I've been getting by, but it sometimes looks odd...and middle part looks ugly on me!! So, I used to always pull my hair back.

I like that Sunny, but closer to the shoulders...my hair that short makes my head really round!

I like it Sunny, so no bangs? The one I posted, I really like...I'm just not ready for short hair. Plus, I think the weight of my hair would require ALOT of product to make it look like hers.

Daisy - You strike me as the type that could pull off a cute short modern do.

Sunny - I know, what you mean. I saw her cutting the bangs I had painstakingly grown and had to look away quickly. LOL  I think that style would look good on you and still be long enough for an up do if you wanted.

How about you all?!? Any new & exciting do's?!?

No, new dos but mine has grown out long enough that I'm liking it again. I've always had a love/hate relationship w/my hair. Cache is looking for some new do advice. I'm thinking long bob w/long layers around the face and her nice long bangs...I'm trying to find a picture to give her.

So is your hair short?

Know whatcha mean about that love/hate thing! LOL! Glad to hear your back to lovin' it!

Short? Not too much...hacked about 4 inches off, but LOTS of layers...biggest beef is that it's not "wash 'n wear" anymore.

I'll have to look at some "Cache" photos for feedback.

I like it, especially the layers. That's about the lengthy I wear mine. You had 4 inches taken off? It was really long then.

Maybe not 4...maybe only 2 or 3...felt like 8!

The picture removed was taken last summer (July) -- I really don't make it a habit to get in front of the camera. This was taken at my best friend's wedding rehearsal.

I like your hair the way it is, but I have to admit that I'm addicted to bangs. I've tried to go bangless and was successful for a while and used to pull my hair straight back or french braid it, but I always return to bangs. I keep them long so that I can blend them in w/my sides if I want to look bangless.

My computer went haywire and I'm trying to fix it. LOL I'm surprised that even posted. Mine are even w/my eyes if they're not curled or scrunched. I have them layered so they fall nice naturally w/out being "big".

I'm thinking about dying mine. I've never dyed or lightened my hair (other than allowing the sun to bleach it some in the summer). I like the length of my hair, but I'm thinking maybe I'd like to go short and kinda funky. Just for a change.

A little shorter & darker...?

I can't pull her picture here, but I'm thinking the mom from "Sweet life of Zack and Cody" short.  If I dye it then I'm thinking a darker auburn..would that be brunette? I don't want dark brown...but brown w/a red tint..does that make sense? Or should I go more strawberry with highlights?

I agree with Daisy, go for an "auburn" brown...a little touch of red (but NOT mahogany -- that's almost a purple red). Your eyes will POP!

Is this the actress you're talking about? If so, WOW that's short...but will be STRIKING!

I absolutely adore her hair...and as I mentioned in a previous post, admire those with the confidence to have it that short. I honestly cannot think of too many women that don't look good with a short, tailored look like that.

The only thing I'd say is that I've heard some complain about the frequency of salon visits -- if you're used to going every 6-12 weeks, or so -- it will be closer to every 2-4 weeks, or so to maintain the cut!

I've decided not to cut - length anyway, for a few reasons:

1. Talking to my best friend the other night she mentioned that she misses seeing me walk up the walk with my hair bouncing back and forth. I thought that was an odd thing to notice about someone, but it brings her comfort and I like that.

2. I wouldn't have anything to flip around when I dance with Lil' Mojo. I gotta have hair to pull off some of my dazzling moves.

3. I like the way it flies out the window when I drive.

4. I like getting lost in it when the wind blows.

5. Without a pony...I wouldn't have anything to hold my baseball cap on when I'm hiking. LOL

And yet again.

My mother's day present was a day at the salon.

I came home with a haircut that I simply ADORE! And for the first time in my life, I got about 8 foiled high lights (supposed to be caramel, but came out slightly more blonde). But, it looks pretty natural, I've been told.

It's very uplifting!!

This, of course, is Jessica Simpson...and my hair is still a bit longer, but this is the general idea -- I got some side-swept bangs cut in too!:

I bet that looks great on you. You make me wanna go get my hair cut again. I'm still searching for a salon that I like.

Your cut looks like it would be great for summer.
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: Sunny on May 27, 2007, 07:22:09 PM
Thanks, Mojo. The length seems like it'll be perfect for summer (if that ever really gets here). I can still put it in a ponytail at the nape, the back of the head, or as an "updo". All requirements after having longer hair, huh?!?!?

But, it's really thinned out much more now with the many layers...and feels lighter.

And surprisingly, the bangs are long enough to still go back fairly well...but sweep across the forehead if desired.

GO FOR IT!!! HOOT HOOT HOOT!

Oh, the things that we could talk about for hours... ;D

What salon do you go to up there?  I used to go to the one at the Plaza that Lukay ran.
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: Sunny on May 28, 2007, 06:40:21 AM
I used to go to one of Lukay's girls...followed her to a different salon that's on Market Street -- but she was really good with "razored" (& SHORT) hair cuts.

Since my decision was very impulsive this time, I simply went to Famous Hair. Cut, foiled highlights & style -- out the door for $45. Not bad & I think the girl did a great job.

There's always a risk you take going to a "walk-ins only" salon.
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...

Yes.  when I go to them now, I always ask for the black girls!  They don't hack away at my naturally curly hair!  they get it!
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: Sunny on May 28, 2007, 07:26:27 AM
Oh...you joke me up, kimmi. (that's oldest daughter's newest expression).

And I'm sure you get away with that, too....makes sense with the natural curl.

The key is finding a girl you like, if you can, at those places & getting to know when she's scheduled to work.

I guess another trick is where her chair is positioned. I always seem to get the "last chair" (or the newest girl at the salon). The girl I got appears to be the manager because it was the "first chair". 8)

There is a chain here called Mitchell's and they rope you in the opposite way.  They give you the number one girl but charge you the basic fee when you get your hair cut the first time.  THEN when you go back, you look at her "rating" and price range and you end up paying 3 times as much as you did the first time.  I only fell for that trick once!

The last place I went to worked that way as well. The best person I've ever had cut my hair was a man in the town where I went to college. He was awesome. Then I met another stylist that I really liked even though she had a tendency to take off too much, just before I moved to CA. The cut was nice and grew out nice. I haven't met that person here. Everyone is SO quick to recommend this one or that one, but so far, I'm unimpressed.

Isn't it called something different on a woman?

I think I'm going to go for it guys. My  hair has grown out to the long stage again and while I like it, it's way too thick for summer. I have just enough curl, although not pretty curl like kimmi's it's this natural wave/curl thing, that it tangles easily so I have to straighten it every day. What a pain!

There are some great anti-frizz products on the market that I use.  I just went to Sally's beauty supply and bought a knock off of Paul Mitchell's styling drops.  I finger it through my hair and let it air dry.  I don't even really have to add anymore product to it but I do if it is really humid here.

I always wear bangs. I think it makes my face look thinner. Not to mention that my hair line is receeding faster than the speed of sound LOL!!! For only being 36, it's getting a little thinner all the time. I think it's because I've colored treated it my entire adult life.

Has anyone seen the Dunkin Donuts Iced coffee commercial with Rachel Ray?  I love the color of her hair.  That might be a fall color for me.  I'll be in the sun too much to do it now.

My mom is FINALLY cutting her hair for Locks of Love.  It is so thick, they can make 3 ponytails from it to send in.

I haven't seen that commercial. My Mom has been donating her hair, to Locks of Love for several years. I think that's a very unselfish thing to do. Cool!!!

I gave up trying to do it myself.  It always looks bad.

The last time I tried was 2 years ago...I tried to do highlights and came out with BRIGHT ORANGE streaks that were so uneven that they didn't even go all the way from root to tip. There were these inch or so missing spaces in the middle here and there. I don't know how I did it.

I had to go to the store to buy somethingto cover it up because Aaron was doing something and wasn't home. It was a nightmare.

Never again!

If I do it myself, it is all around color and not permanent, just semi-permanent.  I couldn't do highlights on my own.  No way!

Highlights are nothing to mess with unless you know what you're doing.

I've done the all around semi permanent color on a few times. I've got demi-permanent (not sure what the difference in demi and semi is but I'm going by what the stylist said) warm-blond, kind of reddish color underneath my highlights.

Got my summer cut! Better late than never.   I've had a difficult time deciding where to get my hair cut. The last time, I asked someone w/great hair where they got it cut and was referred to a fairly pricey salon. The haircut was okay. I liked it, didn't hate it, but it wasn't worth the price. I've tried a couple other places and...again...not awful, but nothing to write home about.

A month or so ago, Lil' Mojo and I went (on a whim) to a place close to where I live, to have our eyebrows and nails done. They did an awesome job. I was especially impressed by the time and care put into Lil' Mojo's nails. I just liked them. I watched the haircuts as they were leaving and everyone seemed to be happy. So, I gave them a whirl. Including my haircut, brows and tip, it was still 1/2 the price I paid last time and I'm SO happy w/my cut.  If I had one complaint, it would be that she didn't leave it as long as I would have liked. I wanted the cut below, but longer to my shoulders. She did it EXACTLY like the picture, so it's hard to really complain about that. I LOVE IT.

This is the exact cut, except the color is a light brown w/blond streaks. (Oh and I don't wear blue eye shadow or cherry colored lipstick AND I don't naturally look quite as intoxicated as this lady )

there is a spray I use just for the humidity - it is called Chi.  It comes in a red bottle and it is a bit on the greasy side so if your hair ever gets greasy, you shouldn't use it.  Naturally curly hair is known to be dry so it works out fine for me.  I just spray on a thin layer and run my fingers through it and it looks like normal shiny hair! haha I have used it when I straighten my hair but my hair just doesn't want to cooperate with straightness!

Women and Hair Loss: The Causes
Today more women than ever are experiencing hair loss -- and the causes may be quite different that what causes balding in men.
By Colette Bouchez
WebMD FeatureReviewed by Charlotte Grayson Mathis, MDFrom Lady Godiva to the Breck Girl, Farah Fawcett to Jennifer Aniston, there is no question that, at least for women, hair is often a defining point in personal style. That's one reason why so many women panic at even the thought of losing a few hairs down the drain with each shampoo.

Those fears are not unfounded, as each year more women are forced to come to grips with the possibility of serious hair loss. According to the American Academy of Dermatology, it's a growing problem, affecting some 30 million women in the United States -- with some forms of loss occurring at earlier ages, and being seen in increasing numbers.

"I have seen women as young as 15 or 16 develop hair loss problems -- it's not common, but it's also not that rare," says Ted Daly, MD, a dermatologist from Nassau University Medical Center on Long Island, who specializes in the treatment of female hair loss.

But what exactly causes a woman to lose her hair? To understand that, it's important to know a little something about how hair grows.

Growth Cycle Interrupted
Experts say our tresses usually grow at the rate of about one-half inch per month -- with each hair having a growth phase of two to six years. At that point the hair "rests" for a period of time, then falls out -- and the follicle from which it sprang soon starts growing a new strand. And so the cycle continues, usually well into our senior years.

In some folks, however -- those with a genetic predisposition to hair loss -- a group of hormones called androgens interferes with this natural process. According to dermatologist Michael Reed, MD, androgen hormones include testosterone, androsteinedione, and dihydrotestosterone (DHT) -- all of which are made in men's bodies in large amounts, and in women's bodies in small amounts.

In those who are genetically susceptible, when testosterone comes in contact with enzymes residing in the hair cell, it is converted into the more potent androgen DHT, which then binds with receptors deep within the hair follicle.

"Over time, an excess build-up [of DHT] in the follicle causes it to begin shrinking, which in turn alters the natural resting and growth phases of the hair," says Reed, clinical associate professor of dermatology at NYU Medical Center, and a specialist in female hair loss. Some of the follicles eventually die, while others are rendered incapable of producing or maintaining healthy hair growth. The end result, says Reed, is hair loss -- and a condition that is medically known as androgenic alopecia.

For many decades, doctors believed that androgenic alopecia was the primary cause of balding in both men and women. Today they know this is not true -- at least where women are concerned.

Female, Male Balding Not the Same Pattern
"We don't even like to use the term 'androgenic alopecia' in women anymore -- instead we call it female pattern hair loss -- a broader term that encompasses many possible causes, some of which are likely to be directly linked to an excess of testosterone, and some of which are not," Daly tells WebMD.

Indeed, he says that although the science of female balding is still largely misunderstood, there is evidence that many other types of enzymes, as well as hormone receptors and blockers, may be at work in women.

One clue that there is a true difference between male and female balding is the pattern in which the hair loss occurs.

"Female pattern balding goes around the whole top of the head -- it's diffuse -- whereas men lose it on the temple, the crown, the bald spot in the back," says Daly. Not coincidentally, the hormone and enzyme receptor sites are also different in varying areas of the scalp -- another reason doctors now believe the loss patterns are caused by different precipitating factors.

Another important difference: While balding in men is almost always the result a genetic predisposition coupled with age, in women, it can happen at any time. In addition, underlying medical conditions can also be the cause of hair loss -- even when true androgenic alopecia is the diagnosis.

Medical Causes Common
"Often these women are also suffering with polycystic ovary syndrome, [a common hormonal problem in women], and sometimes their hair loss is the only obvious sign," says Ricardo Azziz, MD, director of the Center for Androgen-Related Disorders at the Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles.

In addition, Daly reports that certain types of autoimmune disorders result in a slightly different and often less dramatic hair loss problem known as alopecia areata -- an inflammatory condition that causes hair to come out in clumps or patches.

Still others can develop a temporary hair shedding problem known as telogen effluvium -- a change in the natural hair growth system that often follows childbirth, crash dieting, surgery, or a traumatic emotional event.

Azizz adds that thyroid disorders, anemia, even chronic illness or the use of certain medications can also cause hair loss in women that is often undiagnosed.

For these reasons, specialists say it's vital for all women to get at the "root" of their hair loss before seeking treatment.

"The No. 1 rule of treating hair loss in women is getting the correct diagnosis -- if there is an underlying physical problem it has to be corrected first," says Reed. Often, he says, that can preclude the need for additional hair loss treatment. As such, he advises women to see a doctor who specializes in female pattern balding and make certain to be checked for possible underlying medical conditions via blood tests, or if need be, a scalp biopsy.

"Often the diagnosis is made by excluding what problem isn't there -- but it's still essential to do the complete workup," says Daly.

Sometimes I worry mine could be caused by me being pre disposed to Lupus. Last year I became deathly ill with a virus. I was soo stiff I couldn't even bend my body. The pain was excruciating, but I never missed a day of work. I had no grip in my hands, and I had a series of little raised bumps on my forearms. Went to the doctor, he thought it was Lupus. They ran tests and sent me to a dermatologist. The dermatologist did biopsies of my arms, and sent them to Mayo Clinic. Everything came back negative. I went to the dermatologist for the results, and he said, I had a virus. I said" what kind of a virus, whats the name of it?" He says "it doesn't have a name, you feel all better right?" and I said "yes" and he said "it's gone now, no need to worry." I spent $5000 for that load of crap. So, that virus might have something to do with my hair loss, I don't know for sure. I hate doctors and never go to them. If I hadn't been sure I was dying, I wouldn't have gone that time LOL!! I thought I was a goner.  :dead:

Don't think this will help the thinning any but for the dry crispy hair you might try a mayo conditioning.  Just use some cheap mayo, I use Helman's.   Wash your hair and then put it on and use either saran wrap or a plastic bag to put over your head and leave it for at least an hour then wash it out.  When I was getting perms every 4 months or so the lady that does my hair had me start doing that and the perms took more evenly and didn't frizz.  Of course the kids and hubby made fun of me when I did it, called me the mayonnaise monster, but hey the results were worth it...lol

Time for my spring/summer cut. I LOVE her bangs and I've been bangless for a while. I like not having bangs because I think it makes your hair more versatile, but I always go back to bangs. I also like the fact that it looks "windblown", but it's still pretty. Seems like a good style for someone who likes to blowdry, roundbrush and go. It has lots and lots of layers, which I don't mind. I just hope it works well for thick hair.

I've thought about the color too. I just don't have the guts to do it, but if I did, it would be this color.

It is cute.  Mine is similar but not as long.  With naturally curly hair, mine takes much more time because I have to straighten it before I go or I look like a poodle.  Some days I can get away with just the bangs though.

I have decided that I have to tap into my inner ginger.  My hair is going red.  I just have to come to terms with it.  The next time I go in for color I'm just going to go for it!

You should! and I should follow my own advice. ;D

I'm afraid of two things. 1) Having hair that looks dyed. Obviously, since I have light brown hair now everyone will know it's dyed, but I mean the stiff and chunky look that some people have. I'd go to a hairdresser, but it still makes me nervous - then I'm stuck w/it for a while and 2) That it will destroy my natural hair color when it grows out. I guess there's a fix so that it can grow back to your natural color w/out going through the widening part thing? You know where you start w/a strip of your old color at the top of your head and eventually that strip gets wider until the dye is all gone. I hate that. How often must you get dyed hair touched up?
Title: Re: To Cut or Not To Cut...
Post by: kimmi on March 21, 2008, 12:16:06 PM
If you are going that much darker then probably every 6 to 8 weeks depending on how fast your hair grows.  My color is darker than my natural and I only get one all around process, no highlights, but my hair grows so freaking slow that I can go 3 months without looking like a skunk.  Usually my ends will need a major trim before I really have roots.  I just need color redone because my hair seems to get really dull after a while.  My natural color is like that too.  Mousy brown and red!

I finally grew mine out to its natural color. I had dyed it blond since I was 18. I now have a full head of dark brown hair. I like how it looks, but Hubby absolutely HATES it. It was getting sooo thin on top,I was afraid to color it.I was fearful I'd go bald.  :spooked:

That is the one thing I don't like about my hair being dark is that my scalp is neon white under it!!

Well, I did get my hair cut today, but I didn't get this:

I got this:

'Cept with bangs.

Not because this ^ is what I asked for, I asked for the top picture, but somehow it translated for the stylist into this:

I'm a lil' pissed because I had grown my hair specifically so that I could have a longer style. I'm also mad that it's no where close to what I wanted and much shorter. If it were similar to what I wanted and it just didn't look right on me, that wouldn't bother me, because it's what I asked for.  It's a cute do, but I was trying to get away from the bob-like styles.  :-\

My thin spot really stands out now. I saw a friend I hadn't seen in a year, and she commented on it.  :spooked: How totally embarrassing.

I just got mine cut a week ago.  It is similar to Katie Holmes or Victoria Beckhams hair...the bob look.  I love it!!!!!

Ohh I want to see a picture!

PIYA - too bad about the length.  It is a cute cut though.

Although it's not what you wanted, that IS a really cute do, PIYA...and actually the look I've been thinking about going for. I'm trying to grow the 1,000's of layers OUT that I've had cut in over the past year.

Think about it as a blessing in disguise, maybe?

And to be honest, I've never left the salon with the length that I requested...it seems they get a commission based upon the hair they cut off, or something.

I'm still bitter. The bangs are great, but I'd like to wear a hat over the rest of it. It wasn't my usual stylist, she wasn't there. This one did a great job my Lil' Mojo's hair so I thought "why not"? She was talking and answering the phone the entire time she cut my hair. I'm thinking she was distracted and to bail herself out did this cut.

I'm trying to get over it. I don't wanna be mad until it grows out. LOL I'm going to play w/it today to see if I can get something different. I've had some version of a bob for the last couple years.

It definitely stinks when you're unhappy with a new hair style...but, once you are able to get a handle on styling it the way you like it, it's likely you'll LOVE it!

And if not, PIYA, you could always go for the gusto & try this cut you were contemplating over a year ago... :icon_twisted:

I agree with Daisy, go for an "auburn" brown...a little touch of red (but NOT mahogany -- that's almost a purple red). Your eyes will POP!

Is this the actress you're talking about? If so, WOW that's short...but will be STRIKING!

Looking back through this thread, I found this picture.  I think this will be my next cut, if it will even out the layers...but, I'll lose about 6 inches off of the length. *shrug*

This isn't *too* short. But, you know these famous people look good no matter what.

Ok. . . my co-workers love it. I've gotten comliments all morning. I even got hit on in Starbucks today . . . I wasn't interested, but it's the thought that counts. I guess I'm not hating it so much anymore ;D
