Title: What were we thinking???
Post by: me on July 11, 2007, 12:05:42 AM
Well, with cigarette prices so high now we decided to start rolling our own.  The first few went just fine and then it was down hill.  The papers started tearing and we just couldn't seem to get the right amount of tobacco in so we gave up.  Yes, quitting would be an option but.....

my sister has this little machine thingy that rolls them for her.  No guessing on the amount of tobacco.  Seems to work pretty good.

This might be a dumb question...
but can I assume that homemade cigarettes dont even have a filter?

Filters are an available option for those that roll their own. You can buy them at most tobacconists.

You can buy boxes of tubes with the filter already attached.  They come with both white and brown filters.

Find an old hippy! We can teach you how to roll yer own without any fancy gadgets. All you need is some double-wide Zig Zags.

Right or wrong...I know a lot of people here travel to an Indian reserve to buy cigarettes duty/tax-free.

Not sure if that's a viable option for you -- or if it's any cheaper once you consider gas expense, etc..

I vote for "QUITTING".

that's the goal for me, I've already cut back, from 2 packs a day to 1. :)

Don't live close enough to any reservations to save any money that way.  I only smoke about a pack a day but that's still a lot of money especially when added to the almost 2 packs the better half smokes...

Finally decided to invest in one of those super duper rollers and now we're turnin' 'em out like mad.  We also decided to go with the additive free tobacco thinking maybe if we get weened off the additives we could start thinkin' 'bout quitin'.  I've smoked less than a pack of the additive free we rolled and can already tell a difference in the way I feel and, strangely enough, am not coughing as much.  I actually got a good nights sleep last night.  The guy at Low Bob's was telling us that a lot of people are allergic to some of the stuff they put in tobacco now and that's why some people can't smoke certain brands because each has  different additives.  Heck the cigarettes don't even smell as bad believe it or not...lol
I'm in no way condoning smoking here just making observations about the difference in the additive free tobacco.

Definitely sounds like a step in the right direction, me!

I certainly don't condemn you for making the choice to smoke...it's just that I've lost several people who's lives were drastically shortened by the decision to smoke.

Hopefully this will be healthier for you & dh.

I hope so but I know from experience sometimes new things seem better at first and only end up to be the same old same old.  I took a test once to determine why I smoked and I classified as a workaholic and that my reasons for smoking were to be doing something and more of a busy habit than a true addiction to the nicotine.  I have always been hyper and felt I needed to be doing something and never could sit for an extended period of time.  Even when I take a "break" from working at something I find something different to do.

LOL

I'm pretty happy, I am still down to a pack or less a day.  Amazing that I've managed that.  After burning up two packs a day for years.  I actually do mean burning up, because I tend to put them in the ashtray and get distracted doing something else.  My kids are always telling me I waste cigarettes. LOL

diet, eww, I don't care what anyone says, they have NOT been able to make a diet drink that does not have an after taste.  Water is probably the best diet drink I know of.

I thought that too quite sometime ago but after I got used to the diet Pepsi I can't drink the regular because it's too strong and sweet.  I'd really like to get off of the diet Pepsi though because of the artificial sweetener which I don't think is good for a person after my daughter did some research on it and showed me some of the things it causes.
