what did you, or do you, hope to accomplish by posting here?
for me, for some time it was about getting the message out, and opening peoples eyes. the message - "you've been duped. you are acting contrary to your own best interests for the sake of a perceived belonging that will never come to be."
this is most true of the christian fundamentalists and veterans who support bush and the war in iraq.
i have failed.
mostly because i am blunt to the point of crass, and self-assured to the point of arrogance.
mostly.
i chose a battle against a basic human need. pretty much set myself up for failure. so all i can do is point it out, and maybe say "i told you so", but that gets old. and it's a hollow victory at best.
so this seems appropriate...
"And when the broken hearted people living in the world agree,
there will be an answer, let it be.
For though they may be parted there is still a chance that they will see,
there will be an answer. let it be."
so why are you here?
Because I wanted to be here. :D
got kicked out of the bar.
and, I like awol's signature, henry hawks legs, ph's ph stuff, mojo's humor, daisy's purty face, pariann's rottenness, and i heard x was rich and beautiful.
I guess because I like everyone here and I can post with my friend Sunny again. I just find forums to be a lot of fun! No real political or spiritual reason, just out of interest.
I'm here for the fine dining and excellent spirits!
I'm here because everybody here is nice and we have allot of fun. This is a very entertaining forum.
I saw this this morning. I started thinking....indeed, why am I here? Studies of Sartre and Proust began swimmimg around my head. Then I realized that the question was not "Why am I here?" It goes much deeper that that. "Am I really here?"

I know why I'm here. Its because I live vicariously through the meals of others. Yep, that's right. I don't want to cook so screw it. I'm not eating.

Sounds like a plan to me.
Its just such a pain to cook for one, especially since the kids had dinner at my mom and dad's.

I know what you mean. Hash and microwave mac & cheese are a stapel at my house.
I ended up grabbing some Wheat Thins that are cracked pepper and olive oil flavored.
My very first experience with a forum (not the Zone) had been this other volatile little place, where every opinion which didn't meet the "approval" of a certain few would earn comments such as this:
QuoteI'll never stoop to the pathetic and shameless low that you people have plunged to.
QuoteI have a somewhat short fuse when I encounter unabashed ignorance, so I have to ignore most of this liberal minutia.
QuoteYou're an idiot.Your fatalistic and pessimistic outlook on the ability of our nation and it's military soldiers to accomplish the mission in Iraq is sad and disgusting. You should take a trip to Texas, purchase Camp Crawford from the anti-war zealot, Cindy Sheehan, and begin your personal protest of the war. Do the rest of us a favor and take the rest of those on the forum with you who share in your negative, loser, mindset.
These are actual posts and although this is one person, they are typical for a few of the regular members of the forum I started my forum ventures with. Comments such as these would instigate and cause every discussion to turn into complete and total chaos and misery.
When I was introduced to the older version of the Zone, it was like a safe haven. I'd log on and just feel myself relax. Had I not been invited to the Zone, I think I would have sworn off forums altogether, based on the other experience. Discussions at the Zone were never like the one above. I could feel comfortable not only expressing my opinion, but also being wrong. I could ask a question without being accused of playing games or called names. The Zone, for me, has only gotten better since then.
I'll admit that I bring on some of it myself. I like to play the devils advocate and stir things a little to get the discussion rolling, but that can be done without belittling or attacking someone or their character. Although I can hold my own, I'd rather not and I never have to worry about it at the Zone. We have differences of opinion and even if we get carried away on rare occasions, we always come back as friends.
That's why I post here.
That and I sincerely enjoy posting with everyone here. I learn from each of you and have fun with you all. Visiting with you each day is part of my daily routine.
Mojo - I don't think playing devil's advocate and receiving responses like you had should even be related. When I started posting, I remember random acts of attack from crazy people and I don't think it had anything to do with what the post was about, being jealous, or any other logical explaination. The people/persons were crazy, plain and simple.
I'm glad I could come back here. It has been nice not having my posts moved or removed and messages from admin that were just plain mean.
On a serious note: I am here because there is NO other place like the Unknown Zone! I love the environment, the people, and the "out of the box" thinking the administration and membership encourage. We get a smack when we deserve it and not before, and recognition from our fellow members and the administration when we deserve that too. Fair and balanced environment. A place to vent, a place to celebrate, and a place to cut up if you feel like it!
If you aren't here you are lost.

do you cook that hash into the mac & cheese? or do you smoke it first?
I started off here for the same reasons that awol did, except for the opposite view of things...I really wanted to understand why people think the way they do....everything for the most part is black and white to me...but, why others have the strong opinons they do, I was baffled,....I have learned to understand why they think the way the do much better, and have become WAY more patient with opposing views...and in the midst of thing, have found a great bunch of people to share with...and vent with...and have some fun with....
To Henry.......

Bravo Henry! Well stated! 8)
I agree, Henry. You do approach most issues from a different angle than I do, but you are such a gentleman about it that it makes it very easy to at least consider your point of view. You and Magistrate are my favorite conservatives of all time!
The comments I posted previously weren't directed at me, but very well could have been, because that's how that person "discusses" with everyone who has a different opinion. He calls himself a conservative, but I think he's something else.

I smoke the mac & cheese with the hash in it. You have to have special rolling papers for it LOL!!! Sometimes it gets a little bit messy.
It is funny, though, how this place is a place I visit daily (except when I dont have internet access for one reason or another) and I think about the folks here (in their screen names) quite frequently in other ways.
Aaron goes to SoCal, and I think of Mojo. I think of P-town and I think of Henry. I think of house progress, or I have a strange dream and I think of Palehorse. I've seen a girl around town that makes me think "She looks like vxn." I see people in the store and I wonder if its people from here that are local...sometimes I even put screen names to their faces, as if its them. Even the ones who don't live close...
Is that weird?
Yes but that is why we love you! :smitten:
Kim, your long lost sister works in the bar during the days at O'Charleys. I really need to go in there, since the last time I went was a couple of days before I found out my job was ending and it was only after I ate that I realized that Aaron had taken his credit card out of my purse. She comped it cause I was a weekly regular, and I feel bad that I haven't been back. But its kind of hard because I can't very well take the kids to eat in the bar, and its not like its a convenient place to go for lunch now, since I'm 20 miles away...
I love O'Charleys! Their loaded potato soup is the bomb! I'll have to go meet her someday!

No, I think it's cool!!!
I like to play the games when work gets stressful or I can't sleep.
I really appreciate not having posters that are looking for fights. I'm dealing with a few on the hometown forum and it just isn't a pleasant time. Thanks for being a mature (and not when it is fun) group of people that can chit chat and make the day go by faster!
I'm here to learn and share a little lunacy.
Good morning Insane, are you about to burn up too?
I was happy I saw a blue sky this morning, or any sky at all for that matter. And yes, I am burning up. I broke a sweat while walking to my car this morning. How are things in your neck of the woods?
About the same here, two of my kids are playing All-Stars, so I'm running around the park every night sweating, chasing the other two... I really worry about all the farm workers out in this every day. Seems dangerous.
QuoteI really worry about all the farm workers out in this every day. Seems dangerous.
That's why we bring them up from Mexico. Immigration has nothing to do with cheap labor. Global Warming is moving people north. Soon, we'll be Canada's Mexico. So if we reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the "undocumented workers" will go away, and all the hubub will die down. But the capitalists will give up neither their need for cheap labor nor their need to pump out CO2.

I started posting on forums almost 2 years ago because I was looking for mental stimulation. I feel that I 'lucked upon' finding some folks scattered in different places, and was detoured to the Zone.
I feel so fortunate for that. :smitten:

Our tourneys are this week. Then we're done. My son, while he's made awesome progress, won't be playing All Stars this year. This was his first year in baseball ever, but he's not All Star material yet. I'm hoping by next year. BUT I'm soooo sad! He's on the greatest team and I love all the kids so much. They're the greatest group of kids I've ever been around and they all act like they're the best of friends. It makes me almost regret our upcoming move, because we'll miss the friends. And all of the moms are awesome, too. We've become such a little tight knit group of moms; I've never seen this kind of comraderie before with my older son's teams.
I am in your area because I like how you are. My kinda pal. Tell it and shed no tears.
actually, "the right four chords can make me cry".
Will you come to chat?
When I first found THE ZONE, I was scared to disagree with anything or anyone because of differant boards where things got really rough. I don't like to fight. I can fight, but I hate it.
I find myself still a little afraid to say some of my ideas.. it takes a long time to teach an old dog new tricks.. but I am starting to feel more secure.
I am never afraid to say I am wrong, but I hate to be put down and made fun of..... kinda takes all the fun out of a board.
I am glad I am here.
I AM HER BECAUSE OF ONE OF MY PREMISES IN LIFE:
FREE YOUR MIND AND YOUR ASS WILL FOLLOW!
IT IS NICE TO BE ABLE TO FREE MY MIND WITHOUT IJITS DEMANDING WHY I FEEL THAT WAY!
IJITS IS A TERM I USE FOR THOSE I PERSONALLY CONSIDER TO BASE AND COARSE TO DEFAME IDIOTS BY PUTTING THEM IN THE SAME CATEGORY! OUR GANG/LITTLE RASCAL TERM.
THE CONDUCT I HAVE WITNESSED FITS MY NATURE! AND I AM COMFORTABLE HERE FOR NOW.
I KNOW THE IJITS WILL FOLLOW. THEY ARE JUST LIKE SATAN. THEY CAN'T HELP BUT TEST YOU! THEY CAN'T BREATH WITHOUT DERISION.
SO I JUST USE MY INTERNAL IGNORE BUTTON.

DON'T LIKE MY WORDS OR MESSAGE?PLEASE IGNORE ME. WON'T HURT MY FEELINGS.

It's easier to laugh at here than on the other forum though. Over there......well everyone tends to take things too personal.
