A place to discuss events as they play out.
Planes just don't fall out of the sky like that.
Looks like they probably got another one.
I'm thinking it is likely a surface to air missile. If the accounts in the media are correct it sounds like the pilots tried to do evasive maneuvers but were unsuccessful. Or perhaps the projectile clipped the aircraft and they just flat out lost control. . .
In any case it seems fairly clear that it is likely a terrorist act and not mechanical or systemic failure. . .
There was also a military aircraft that went down today during take off, I believe it was a C 130, but all aboard survived. . .
Debris found. Suitcases, seats, and remains. Looks like the debris field is about 180 miles north of Alexandria, Egypt.

I think that's the likely cause, although it's too early to tell with any certainty. To my knowledge, nobody has yet claimed responsibility.

Even if this air crash is not caused by terrorist, I think that there should be a world wide law. That law is anyone that is convicted of belonging to a terrorist group, that person should be put to death. :hanged: :behead: :rifle:

I don't think any group has claimed responsibility yet. Maybe, if it was a bomb and not a missile, it was a "lone wolf".
ACARS data indicates smoke and heat behind the cockpit and on the copilot's window for 2 minutes before the aircraft was lost.
I believe this would be an indication of an electrical short or fire from an incendiary device perhaps. A bomb would have resulted in a breach of the shell and loss of pressure; neither of which are indicated. Same for a missile strike. . .
Might be something mechanical then. Usually, terrorists rush to claim responsibility when it's their doing.

True
Heard on one of the news broadcasts that they are saying an explosion indicative of a bomb but airport personnel said an explosion could be a mechanical failure.
CVR data indicates that there was an attempt to put out a fire prior to the crash. :spooked:
May not be terrorism after all.

But...but...but...how do we capitalize on the politics of fear if it wasn't terrorism? :o

Agreed, but don't expect Trump to retract his remarks.
As an aside, it actually may be scarier that it wasn't an attack. In the absence of terrorism, we now have an unexplained fire breaking out mid-flight on a widely used type of aircraft.

Aircraft fail for a variety of reasons all of the time. There are no perfect systems.

Yes sir, things can be made fool proof, but nothing can be made idiot proof. :para: :groan:
Traces of explosive material were found on the remains of the victims of the EgyptAir Flight 804 crash, the Egyptian investigation committee announced on Thursday, citing a forensic report.
The Airbus A320 was en route from Paris to Cairo when it crashed into the Mediterranean Sea on May 19, killing 66 people.. . .

It now appears this was indeed an act of terrorism.
There is one thing about flying :para: on a Mid Eastern airline plane, You don't buy tickets, you buy a chance. A chance that you will make it where you are going. :haha:

Exactly. Like I said on another thread, you really have to have some stones to fly on some of those airlines. ;D
