Title: Class Action Lawsuit Accuses Playboy of Discriminating against Men
Post by: Sandy Eggo on February 13, 2011, 07:40:22 AM
QuoteYou know how some night clubs and big party events charge guys more than women to get in?
Well, David Long Jr. of California is calling bullshit.

Long is pissed off that the fine folks over at Playboy had the gall to charge him hundreds more than women guests for a ticket to a bash at Hef's mansion, so he's filed a class action lawsuit in LA Superior Court against Playboy Enterprises International Inc. for unlawful discrimination.

According to the lawsuit, Long attended the third annual "White Party at the Playboy Mansion" in May 2009. The promoters used what Long is calling "gender-based pricing."

Long claims that men had to fork over at least $625 for a ticket, whereas "gorgeous ladies" were "offered a free or reduced price admission," and "less attractive women" only had to pay as much as $350 for a ticket.

Long, suing on behalf of all the men who attended the "White Party" or any other similar party at the Playboy Mansion, is claiming civil rights violations, saying that Playboy denied him "equal treatment under the law" by jacking up the prices for the same services just because he's a man.

Is this descrimination? Do they have a point? or does the independent businesses have the right to set prices however they choose? Apparently one court thought some men in a similar situation had a point.

http://caselaw.findlaw.com/ca-court-of-appeal/1081394.html

So, is it discrimination or sour grapes supported by law. Do they have any real rights to have access to these businesses?

Awwww Sandy, come on, now.  Now that you women have got civil rights and change the playing floor of life here in America  you want to play the game men use to play.  Yes with the rule changes you women have, you girls have more rights than men.  Especially sexual harassment.  You dear sweet women "never Lie" about sex.  :rotfl:  :rotfl:  :rotfl:

Fair and equal, right?  We know why Playboy and the bars give reduced prices to women.  Because you women don't and won't pay full price to go to a bar and it's the same thing with the Playboy Club.  I have heard you women talking to each other on how many free drinks  the dorks at the bar bought you women last night at the bar.  Right?  Love those dorks with money. Those pretty boys don't work or have a job.  You know I'm right, because no matter how bad you women may look, we all know that ugly women get better looking at closing time.

Charge one price for tickets and for the beauties, the women with the big false racks  Brazilian butt lifts  and inflated lips, pay them a little money and let them be part of Hugh Hefner's meat, boobs and bootie show.

No sour grapes, we got our civil rights too.  The ugly women need to be suing too, even tho, they do get better looking at closing time.  I know, it happened to me too.      Love those ugly women, they kept the night from being complete bust, they still like to have a coffee and something to eat and a little loving when the show is over.  :salute: :seeya2: :music1: The party's over :music1: Let's call it a day. :music1:

Personally I believe it is the right of the business owner to enact whatever admission charge structure they so choose. The fact is, if the jackasses suing would sober up long enough to think about it, if the clubs went to across the board pricing, those events would resemble nothing but a gay bar; with women shunning the high price venues.

Clubs enact the reduced/no admission pricing toward women in order to attract a higher number of them; knowing full well that a club full of women, average or good looking, or even ugly, is, bottom line, VERY good for business.

It is a basic business decision that has been used by night clubs, taverns, and other entertainment venues for decades, with great success in the lions share of the cases. Revenues on those nights where women are subject to reduced/no admission price, or reduced beverage pricing, are typically the highest generating nights of any given period; often determining the ongoing validity of keeping the business open.

My guess, this is sour grapes being brought forth by some micro-dicked, pre-mature ejaculator who couldn't get a date despite the fact the place was packed with women at a 4 to 1 ratio!

Sorry Troll, your're wrong. If anything the difference in prices is a marketing ploy which exploits women. If the bars weren't full of women, the men wouldn't be whining to get in.

When you say, "now that you women have civil rights..." Are you implying that civil rights shouldn't apply to women? And further, why shouldn't women expect equality?

PH, I agree with you.

IMO as long as  it is a private organization and receives no taxpayer money they can charge whoever whatever they choose.

Sandy, I don't think women even now have complete equality in the workplace, esp. if you believe the articles about equal pay and promotions.

For a slightly different view, many years ago, my mother worked for GM (same plant as Troll's aunt) and at that time men were paid more than women, that changed in the 50's and more than a few of the women were upset about it because of it they could be assigned the dirtier, heavier jobs filled by men. The need Rosie the Riviter was gone and some women didn't want those jobs.

Tho I didn't state it.  Hey, let the women in free.  Fill the damn place with women.   If I was back to running my traps the more the merrier.  But what I said is true, the women know they sit on the greatest money maker and attention getter in the world for men, a roach motel for men and also they are to cheap too pay full price to get in.  Cheap, cheap, cheap with "their" money but oh how they can spend your hard earned money.  "Oh, I want one of those fancy drinks that cost $10, I don't know what's name, I just know it is expensive."  "A beer? Barf!"

In my running days the women paid for nothing.  Just the promise of a chance of what they were sitting on and that didn't happen to often, just offen enough to make you search more.   ;D  Not like to day, where the women call the men, and give the men all of the milk they want and the men don't have to buy the cow.     A lot of the 21ST Century women love the pretty boys who won't work and just spread their seeds.  After the girls have couple of unwed babies by these punks they hope and pray for a nerd, a not too good looking guy who work their ass off for their families.  Then they find out even these men don't line up for a ready made family and it too late to have a happy life.  Just not to smart.

But at the Playboy Meat Party and that is what it is, if they cut the price to women to nothing, the only women that would get in would be the faux and beautiful.  Even if the women were put at the door deciding who get in it would be the same way.  No room at the manger for the ordinary women.

Oh I can hear the hisses at the Troll for being crude, rude and if the men have large enough balls, they will admit, the Troll is telling the truth.   :rotfl:  :rotfl:

you seem to be arguing that at worst this is some sort of "reverse discrimination" that we, as men, should just suck up... being in power and all.

there really is no "reverse discrimination", and if you are in favor of "whatever pricing scheme" a business so chooses.. imagine if the sign outside a clup read:

whites: free...
hispanics: 250
blacks: 500

still a "discount"?

According to the law it is discrimination and therefore illegal.  If I was a bar owner I would let the women come in free.  It's called bait.  It draws in the fish (men) the people who has the money and willing to spend it.  More the better.   Or if you kept the women out it would cut out a lot of one night stand pregnancies.

What really bothers me is, if you own a bar or anything a bunch of do goodies can demand that you can't have any smoking in it.  The way I feel is if you don't smoke and don't like it, STAY OUT.  Nobody dragging your ass in there, now that's discrimination.

If the business owner denied entrance to one gender or the other, then I could understand a complaint about discrimination, but that's not the case. Also, if there is a case to be made based on prices, then I think we'd need to see the complete or usual pricing policies. For example, is this the pricing for a special event? And the prices are comparable at other times? Or even events where the pricing plan is in the reverse? Does the fact the prices are advertised and they make a choice to go or not play a factor?

Welcome to The Troll's Golden Towers Condos.  I am glad all of you can to sign up and buy one of my condos.  As you know they are all alike, all have balconies, two bed rooms.

Now over there Mr. Afro the condo will cost  you $500,000 and you over there Miss Golden Hair Barbie  your condo will cost you only $150,000.  All it takes is if you want to play and pay or not.

Would I be legal.  Is that what your saying.

Nope, there was more to what I said and  this is a different scenario which happens all the time. It's not right, but prove it. I think housing is more necessary to life than bar-hopping.

Now read the rest, if the prices were analyzed for each night of the week and they favored on gender or the other for promotions and events or marketing, then would it be discrimination. For example, Sunday during football, guys can drink all they want for a cover of 10 bucks. Wednesday night is ladies night and they get a reduced cover. How is that unfair? I'm saying we need the whole picture to make a determination.

All I can say it's more fun to go the the bar on women's night that go there when you can drink all of the beer you want for $10.

But one thing I found out on women night.  Knowing how to dance and being able to make the girls look like they knew how to dance and show them off payed off better than knowing how to stand, holding a beer with your tongue out. :drool1:  :grin2:

I thought I'd drop by this thread because there appears to be a lot of confusion concerning 'public' and 'private' in regards to businesses.

A business may be 'privately' owned, but once it opens it doors to the 'public' that business is subject to all governmental regulations and rules etc. and may not do just any ole' thing that pops in the owners head.

"Y" we have a person on the Zone who thinks women are equal with men in football, wrestling any sport or just plain anything.  I just don't believe they were born with the physical strength to pull of a lot of crap she putting out.  What you think?

So, if Y were to offer an opinion similar to mine, then you believe it? Does it take a man to make you realize how skewed your thinking is or were you attempting to look for reinforcements because your ego was getting a little bruised?

As I said, women have successfully transitioned into historically male dominated areas.

As I said before, your chest thumping and posturing  means nothing in relation to reality. What's your real point, Troll? Why does equality offend you so much or is it that it scares you? Why do you care?

Does it make you feel all warm and manly to think you make someone cry? Is that what a "real man is" someone that bullies his way into shutting people down thinking their silence is respect? I don't take any of this seriously enough to cry. I hate to burst your bubble...well..no that's a lie.

Seriously, I find your comments rather stupid, but I don't care, showcase your stupidity. It's your floor.

I disagree. In my area parks and rec teams are mixed. Those are adult teams as well as children's/teen's. There are all girl/boy teams too, but they play against each other. That's the way it should be.

Tennis, volleyball, non contact sports sure, maybe even softball or baseball, but football, basketball, wrestling and those types of sports, no especially high school, college, and  pro sports. I'm sorry but I'm from the old school of boys have their thing and girls have theirs and the two shouldn't be mixed.  Has nothing to do with not being equal it has to do with girls and boys are different and need to be separate in some things.  The parks and rec teams are a whole different thing.

I'm sorry, but that doesn't make sense. What would be the difference?
I'm not saying there can't or shouldn't be gender specific teams, if that's what people want, but there's no good reason why it has to be that way for those who don't. I don't want to play football and maybe you don't either, but there are some girls/women out there who do or can and do. Look at mixed boxing.
If they can do it in parks and rec then why shouln't they do it in schools and professional teams?

My daughter played  football and soccer on mixed teams and last year her all girl soccer team played mixed and boy teams in the league. She has also been on gymnastics and dance teams with boys.

I think it's a shame to limit a childs vision and interests by old school stereotypes that serve no real purpose.

BTW, Basketball is considered a "non-contact" sport.

Boys need to be boys without having to be concerned about hurting or offending a girl in sports.  Dance teams, gymnastics, and non contact sports are different.  Just recently there was a case where a high school boy gave up a possible championship because he didn't want to wrestle a girl in the national contest because he didn't feel it was appropriate.  Again, has nothing to do with equality has to do with respect for women.  Not only that but if the guy should accidentally touch the girl in an inappropriate place while playing is she or her parents gonna run to the principle or other authority and complain about it?  Why can't some people just realize all things can not and should not be equal?

That's what got this whole "discussion" started. That young man copped-out. It's much easier to turn down a championship for supposedly honorable reasons than to face his friends after getting beaten by a girl. They all touch each other in inappropriate spots in wrestling. She made it that far so I'm sure she knew what to expect if he had actually had the courage to wrestle her.

This is one of those things that I won't be able to change your mind. You're too set in your ways so I'm not going to try. Some people are just incapable of realizing there isn't a real good reason why everything isn't equal. I will say, don't be surprised by the number of traditionally male or female sports that become coed in the future. I just hope the kids like the one that tossed the championship are ready for it.

Well, thank you "ME" we are old school, the best times were the 50's 60's.   21ST and the 22nd Centuries are not going to be good times for both sexes.  They are going to be a each other throats for power and control.  It isn't going to be good for marriage or the kids.  They are maning up the girls and girling down the boys.  Isn't good for either and sure isn't a pretty picture of future life.  Manish girls and girlie boys.  Hell we got that now.  Just look at the kids.

Some people are just incapable of realizing there isn't a real good reason why everything isn't equal. I will say, don't be surprised by the number of traditionally male or female sports that become coed in the future. I just hope the kids like the one that tossed the championship are ready for it.
Males and females were different for a reason and there are certain things that just shouldn't be equal.  Since when is what that boy did a sign of being weak or chicken?  Maybe those she wrestled before she got there held back so they wouldn't hurt her you just don't know.  Maybe she took advantage of the situation to get as high as she did and you know darn well it happens.  You know back when all this silliness started I remember women wanting to ban men only clubs but screaming like banshee's when men wanted to ban their little sewing circles and women only things they did.  Ya can't have it both ways and a lot of women forge that.  They want that type of equality but only on their terms.
Should men help the women with the housework, yes, should they help raise the kids, yes, equal pay for equal work, yes, but some things should remain separate and sports is one of them.

Ah, traditions, customs, and mores.

Many other cultures don't have our hangups and do quite nicely.

The boy reflects his parents' teachings.

I wonder if, years from now when he reaches full mental maturity, he'll regret not wrestling her.

But other cultures also have their separation of genders even though the types of separations may vary from culture to culture.

Besides the obvious difference in reproductive organs, what is different about males and females and what is the reason they're different? You think it has to do with sports. :rotfl:

Like what and under who's authority?

Since when is what that boy did a sign of being weak or chicken?

It's just as likely an explanation as the rambling crap below. How many people was she required to wrestle to get to the championships? I'm not a numbers person, but I would think that odds are more likely that one person threw the match (the last one) rather than ALL of the people she had to wrestle to get to the finals.  If the other's didn't throw it and she didn't get hurt, then why would the last one throw it? I think it's obvious, but I don't know any more than you do.

Quote from: me on February 22, 2011, 04:25:30 PM

I don't know any such thing, particularly in this case. Prove it.

What silliness? The silliness that gives women the right to function in society as equals, vote, work, equal pay, etc? I'm sure those are rights you wouldn't want to lose, but yet you'd take a woman's right away to compete in a sport that she enjoys and trains for. Sounds like YOU'RE the one that wants it both ways.

Why would she train to wrestle to a boy wrestling program?  To try to be different?   I feel she proved nothing.  She's a spoiler and a loser.  Maybe if you mannish women could grow a pair bullocks then we might let you in men's sports.

I think some laws should made that if you mannish women want to compete in men's sports.  There cannot be any liability or law suits when you get your ass kicked or your head is torn off.  :grin2:

I would imagine because she wanted to. How many female wrestling teams does her school district offer? Perhaps that was her only option.

I don't imagine sports in Indiana is that much different than anywhere else. Waivers are required or they can't play.

So, maybe you have first-hand knowledge of sports related lawsuits? Why don't you provide some substance to your argument by researching and posting the figures and statistics of lawsuits filed by women injured playing an historically male sport.

Feelings of inadequacy surfacing again?

Geez. Sorry about that.

Going to physical threats. Typical.

Might just get sticky for ya, though. Played Division III college football -- linebacker.

Am currently 6' 5" and 265. Work out regularly and currently bench 255.

Never abused prisoners -- didn't have to.

You, on the other hand, are a real piece of work.

No, really.

Well, listen to the big :chick: hawk.  Pile on Twinkie.  I don't think I'm the only one you can't feed.  I think Palehorse and "Y" sorta gets to you too.  :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:  The little baby boy just can't take it.  Waaaa  Waaa   Waaaa!    I gonna take my computer and go home.   :'( :'( :'(

I bet you're sure happy the Republicans are trying to break the unions and hurt the American workers in Indiana, Ohio and Wisconsin.  I'll bet you would have like union busting when your dad was working for GM and, you could have lived so better with out the UAW.

Don't feed the Troll, man that's old trash talk can't you come up with something newer and modern.  :blah: :blah: :blah: :suck: :suck: :suck: :salute: :no1: The one and only Troll. :grin2:

Troll, I'm not sure WHY I am even responding back to you, but I can say without a doubt that regarding Palehorse or Y, I have zero problems with....NONE....I have exchanged with them for 7 or 8 years now....and I can say that they both are friends of mine, and I'm sure they will both agree.

Troll, I know how you feel on EVERY subject and it is pointless to waste my time with you.  I know it has gotten that way for others towards myself....I am just as set and solid in my beliefs.  I have merely decided that I am focusing on my work and less time on here.  I have always been fortunate to have a job that has allowed me to do my job and spend some time here.  As of recent times, I have been given more responsiblity that does not allow me the luxury to put the efforts in to a good discussion.

I still enjoy coming by and reading and making sure that all my forums buddies are doing okay.

As far as WI, IN and OH.....the will of the people will dictate what is best for their state.  ;)

You know those little cardboard hands you sometimes find in new gloves? Maybe he could staple one of those to a headband and wear that to catch the ones that go flying over his head.

Your damn right meathead.  Built a Benson Gyrocopter with a 80 HP McCulloch engine.   It had a 22 foot rotor.

Just Google in Gyrocopter and you can see what it looked like.  Go back and clean some more cow hides.     I also had pilots license and own a part of my own plane.  Smart enough to fly a plane liar?   NO, don't tell me you were a Ace in Nam. :rotfl:  :rotfl:  I bet you had a problem riding a bicycle.     With all of those big muscles, between  your ears.

I seriously doubt it was a real plane. Maybe a model, but even that would be mentally taxing for him...he MUST be lying.
