Title: Curiosity prompts me to ask
Post by: me on May 19, 2010, 08:52:41 AM
What is the difference between "misspeaking" and lying?  Example:  Someone tells something about their past to make themselves look good to a certain group of people and it's found to be untrue later: is that lying or misspeaking?

Politicians like to use the word "misspeaking".....that does not sound like they are a bold faced liar!!  John Kerry had this problem...

I know what you're talking about and I agree that in the context it was used that it's sematical in an attempt to reduce the blow of using the word lie.

There is technically a difference though. To misspeak implies that it was unintentional or a mistake.

I think it was a mistake that he lied, but the mistake wasn't unintentional.

Anyway, let he who is in politics and isn't guilty cast the first stone.

That is like this conversation I was having on another site where the guy said his grandfather was an "unofficial" citizen.  Wouldn't that be the same as illegal? I've never heard of an unofficial citizen before.

If you're talking a Senator Blumenthal saying the he was in Vietnam, he was flatass lying.  I serve in the reserve during the Vietnam War and never left the states.  There is no way that I would say that I serve over there in the war.

I have had some people say thank you for your service and I tell them very quickly that I was never over there, never left the states and thanked my lucky stars that I did have to.

Blumenthal is done, he's cooked his goose.  If he doesn't drop out, he sure won't be elected.

Lying about being in any war is one thing no one can lie about and get away with it.

No this guy tried to say that his grandfather came here as an immigrant, worked for a manufacturing company and was an unofficial citizen until he retired and then became a citizen.  None of that makes any sense to me.

John Kerry was a war hero.  He served his time in hell.  He was wounded several times.  He was the victim of some very good Republican lying.  The Swift Boat men were proved to be lier's everyone of the sonuvabitces.

For people who never serve a day in the service of his country or dodged the draft with college deferments should keep their mouths shut.

You mean the whole 4 months and then he came back and proceeded to bad mouth the military in those senate hearings and is a lot of the cause of the vets getting treated like they did when they returned.  Don't even start on that idiot.

And the 75 so called Swift boaters who weren't' even there where Kerry was, location or time, who would believe the lying sonuvabitches Republicans. :lies: :lies:

Even tho I might think you are a dumbass, I still don't think I have come right out and called you a dumbass.  Now, "ME" just last week she called me a dumbass, I think turn around is fair play.  You didn't see me cry and come unglued.  Stick and stone may hurt my bones, but names will not hurt me.   :'( :'( :'(

I agree with you 100% on Blumenthal, his statements on TV sure cooked his ass.

I thought you might have been talking about Kerry.  Henry said in a post just before yours that he would believe the 75 asshole Swift Boat turds before the would believe Kerry about his combat action.
