More funnies here!

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/15/AR2009061503131.html (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/06/15/AR2009061503131.html)

BTW ... where is the "conservative" press on this one ...

Rusty DePass, a GOP activist and former chairman of his state's elections commission, wrote of the First Lady Michelle Obama on Facebook this weekend.

First, an aide to state Attorney General Henry McMaster had authored a Facebook post about the escape of a gorilla from Riverbanks Zoo Friday. DePass then posted the following response on Facebook: "I'm sure it's just one of Michelle's ancestors - probably harmless".

The funniest joke Letterman made didn't get much press ...

[Palin] "bought make-up at Bloomingdales's to update her slutty flight attendant look"

because HE made a poor joke?........that he even admits to?

Letterman made an ass of himself.......and he is trying to smooth it over.

Sandy how would you feel if someone made a joke on national TV about YOUR daughter getting knocked up?

Would you laugh and move on, or would you call him out on it?

Why does she wait until now? If you read the article I posted you would see that this has been going on for a long time.

On Sept. 2, during the presidential campaign, Leno, for example, told this joke on "The Tonight Show": "Governor Palin announced over the weekend that her 17-year-old unmarried daughter is five months pregnant. And you thought John Edwards was in trouble before! Now he has really done it."

On Oct. 10, O'Brien, then host of "Late Night," quipped: "Sarah Palin is going to drop the first puck at the Philadelphia Flyers hockey game. Then Palin will spend the rest of the game trying to keep the hockey players out of her daughter's penalty box."

"Saturday Night Live" has also parodied the Palin family in questionable ways. In a skit last September, a mock reporter joked about incest in the vice presidential candidate's family, saying, "I mean, come on. It's Alaska!"

Palin not only didn't protest, she appeared as a guest on the program a few weeks later.

Is this why she is so upset now?

"A more cynical view may be that Palin had more than enough media attention last fall, and that her Letterman broadside was designed to renew attention when the spotlight is dimming. Palin may even have been aware of a Gallup poll released last week showing that she attracted less than 1 percent of Republicans who were asked to name the "main person who speaks for the Republican Party today."

I really don't know WHY she didn't get pissed at the other...

the question is, did letterman screw up?........did he cross the line.......?

I think he did.........but, he is also possibly a little desperate to keep up his ratings because of the new Conan O'brien hitting the scene...

and Palin has every right in the world to swing back.....I know that I would.

THAT has NOTHING to do with it..............Palin can't fart without the media being there to say how bad it stunk...if anything the lack of class has everything to do with the media...not Palin.

all Palin did was respond.......the media is the one having the hay day with this ..... them and the womem groups who are calling for letterman to be fired........hence that is why letterman even decided to apologies........

the bottom line is letterman screwed up.....not palin.

The joke was in extremely poor taste, as many jokes are, and Letterman should have been clear about which daughter he was talking about.

At the same time, Palin brought this on herself. She painted herself as a god-fearing moralistic fundamentalist... and then pretty much turned the campaign into an episode of Mary Hartman Mary Hartman.

First she paraded the pregnant daughter around on the campaign trail, putting her own pregnant daughter in the spotlight with the boyfriend who was suppose to be by her side but not marry her yet... And then later, when Bristol and the boyfriend were both interviewed, and their own comments defied Sarah's stances... The boyfriend was history.

And then Sarah makes the situation even more ridiculous, with her "dirty old man" and "rape" comments.

Damn...better mark the calendar again!

It's ironic that Palin is now suddenly beating the exploitation drum since she seems to have not had a problem with it in the past:

I am the wrong person to be asking that question. I see far too much humor in a lot of situations that the "average bear" wouldn't. . . But, since you asked, Yeah, I got a chuckle out of it. . .

Had the attention whore not made such a big deal of this, it would be long gone and forgotten by now; relegated to the massive heap of bad jokes and politically incorrect statements generated each day by the talk show circuits. The only person giving the damned joke any credibility is the friggin target herself!

Come on they're Alaskans for crying out loud! It's not like any one of us is going to bump into them on the street or anything. . .

But didn't we learn from Obama that you MUST believe everything and have the same point of view as our spiritual leaders?  I mean the Right said that Obama MUST also believe all the things the hateful minister said.

Great minds!  I just made that exact same point.

Kimmi, I have made the same point, about Letterman, NEEDING publicity....now that Conan is his new opponent at that time slot.....but, I not sure this one is going to help him, more than it is going to hurt him.

Ah but it did pull in viewers.  More than normal.  Just like Saturday Night Live pulled in more viewers when Tina Fey portrayed Sarah Palin.  There are a lot of people who find her just too darn funny to ignore - kind of like a train wreck.

Ya know, ya'll can make fun of her all ya want and call her stupid or whatever but if push came to shove she knows more about life as a common person than the Obama's or the Clinton's ever will know.  Can't you just see Billary or Michelle actually doing manual labor?  Can you imagine either of them hunting or fishing to help feed their family?  How many times did you see Billary going to a fund raiser for disabled kids let alone taking Chelsy? (sp)<----speaking of weird names... She raises her family and is the Governor of a state.  They may not have a perfect family, no one does, but for Letterman and the others to make her so much the butt of those types of jokes is beyond the pale.  A slutty flight attendant??? Give me a break.  I have never seen her dressed inappropriately.  Clinton's daughter is off limits, Obama's family is off limits, so why isn't Palin's family off limits.  Double standard maybe?

Me I really like you as a poster, but I just can't leave this one be.

If being a "common person" is defined by manual labor, hunting, and fishing, then I'm not a common person either.

You cannot tell me that Chelsea Clinton was not the butt end of jokes.  People picked her apart mercilessly when she was going through puberty and sadly the same thing will happen to Melia and Sasha.  If you put your family in the spotlight, then you need to expect to hear opinions that you don't like.

Did you forget this nasty little joke?

In 1993, when Chelsea was still in braces, Rush Limbaugh took this shot: "Everyone knows the Clintons have a cat," said Limbaugh. "Socks is the White House cat. But did you know there is also a White House dog?" And he held up a picture of Chelsea.

I've read enough. I think I'll throw in my 2 cents.  As a mother, she has the right to be offended if her children are picked on.  As a public figure, she should have shielded her children a little more during the campaign, but she shouldn't make them any sort of platform.  Let the media discuss the situation, and if she had something to say about being offended, she should have kept it between herself and Letterman.   When I saw her on the Today show discussing it, I thought....dang, who hasn't had something unflattering said about their kid.  It was a poor taste joke.  That's not funny to me is the most she needed to say.  But when I heard Matt Lauer ask her if she was insinuating something perverse about Letterman, I thought, dang, who wrote your questions?    I took that comment about keeping Willow away from Letterman, as Willow would show him exactly how she felt about the joke.  And she confirmed that possibility.  Of course, if that's true, what does that say about how Palin teaches her children to deal with things they don't like coming from other people?

She needs to grow a skin.  David Letterman makes fun of everyone.

He should have checked out which kid was with her, and passed on that one, but he didnt.

He wants the ratings and she wants to keep her name out there.

Sounds like the perfect partnership to me.

I do, however, think that John Ziegler's idea to boycott businesses that advertise on stations that carry shows that might be seen as offensive is so good that I am starting a campaign to boycott all of his advertisers.

I've already contacted Olive Garden thanking them for making my dining selections less overwhelming by removing themselves from the running and I've contacted KGIL radio to let them know their advertisers are fair game for as long as they continue to carry Ziegler's show.
