it is THIS kind of 'happenings' is why there are 'tea parties' ... people of TIRED of this kind of waste and fraud.
Here is another one:
Stimulus check sent to long-dead woman
BALTIMORE, May 13 (UPI) -- An 83-year-old Maryland man said he was shocked to receive a federal stimulus check addressed to his mother, who's been dead since 1967.
James Hagner, 83, of Anne Arundel County, said he opened his mail last week and was surprised to find the government check, one of millions sent to U.S. citizens on Social Security, addressed to his late mother, Rose, WBAL-TV, Baltimore, reported.
"It shocked me and I laughed all at the same time," Hagner said. "I don't even expect to get one for myself, and I get one for my mother from 43 years ago?"
Social Security Administration officials said the mid-June deadline for mailing out the checks does not leave enough time for thorough examinations of the program's records. They said an estimated 10,000 of the 52 million checks that have been mailed out were addressed to deceased people.
"I just want to keep it as a souvenir. I'll never cash it," Hagner said.

Old news...the stimulus was pushed through so quickly that the IRS and SSA didn't have time to review and scrub their files.

You're right and just to make sure that they didn't fuck up when they sent
your check, you should return the money immediately pending a thorough review of your account. I'm sure you're willing to do so; right?

From what I've read, some of these people were never even on social security (or i guess never had a number, like my great great grandmother who died in 1963). How did they even get in the SS system? And WHY after 40 or 50 years, weren't they already scrubbed?

Why would he get a check? These are supposed to only be for those on Social Security right now.

$250 Social Security Payment and Working Credit: I also received some questions regarding whether this payment would be available to otherwise qualified retirees or disabled people who are also social security recipients. The answer is that it will, but in a reduced fashion. Because there is another provision in the overall stimulus bill of a one-time payment of $250 in 2009 to retirees and disabled people receiving Social Security benefits, the $400 income-tax credit (rebate) will be reduced by $250. To clarify: You get the $250 SS credit (which will distributed as an additional payment) plus a reduced $150 working tax credit (total is still $400).
Update to $250 SSI payment: The Social Security Administration (SSA) reports that everyone who is entitled to the $250 payment should receive it by late May 2009. No action is required on your part. They are currently working on the details regarding it will be issued to nearly 55 million beneficiaries. Note: The Making working Pay $400/$800 credit is being paid by the IRS, while the $250 social security payment is being paid out by the SSA. The one-time economic recovery payment will not count as income for SSI.
To receive payment, the beneficiary's address of record must be in a valid US state or territory. Only individuals eligible for Social Security, SSI, Veterans, or Railroad Retirement benefits at any time during the months of November 2008, December 2008, or January 2009 may be eligible for the one-time payment. The $250 payment will be delivered in the same way your current Social Security or SSI benefit is sent.
Uhm.....does this mean that these dead people (some of which were never signed up for SS) are getting a monthly check?

I was referring to last year's checks and I'm sure there were a lot of errors with those as well but you weren't bitching then. And no, I don't get incentive checks.
Quit making so dang much money!! LOL

as a mater of fact I WAS...it was MORE waste.............but if you think I'm giving BACK money I should have had in the first place then ...you must be high!...
why do you ...selectively call them "incentive" checks?

I know that the idea of cost/benefit ratio is lost on you but is it possible that the combination of the delay in time and the cost of reviewing and revising the data was greater than the exposure of not doing so?

It was taken away from your paycheck? That's odd since it really wasn't accounted for with any sort of recalculation of your 2007 tax return and didn't appear as income on your 2008 return? I would submit that it was money taken out of
my paycheck and given to you.

I would submit that you are wrong....it is money that should NOT have been taken out of my check in the first place....they simply gave BACK money that I had previously given....I have paid plenty, in comparison to what many pay.
If we would quit - wasting tax dollars - then this would not even be an issue.

And you'd be full of shit. If I pay in more than you do and I don't get any of it back but you do, I subsidized your refund, plain and simple.

and I would say the you are full of shit, plain and simple..........I subsidized my own refund....it was mine in the first place...and btw, I think it sucks that EVERYBODY, who paid taxes, SHOULD have got a refund...well, I take that back, we should not have paid as much as we did into it in the first place....

Again, you'd be wrong...in fact, by not getting any breaks for having any dependents, I also subsidize your breeding...talk about getting ripped off!

I doubt you are paying these guys.......the VAST majority of them are your day to day, hard working, tax paying Americans................not like those who sit at home and watch Oprah!

Dude, even in the presence of budget deficits, some money has to be moving through the treasury. If these hard-working Americans are getting most of their tax money back (solely based on their often questionable breeding choices) and I'm not, I'm supporting the government and they are not to the same extent especially given that their larger families require a greater share of resources. It's pretty simple math, really.

they are not getting MOST of their tax money back.............where did you read that?..........most are paying "around" 28% to 33% of their income....
you also got to remember, that those who have families, normally spend a large portion of their income to support their families, which enhances our federal revenue.....

There ya go...Obama would be proud of you because that's what he's shooting for....the spread the wealth thing....Like I said elsewhere as long as it isn't effecting you it's ok but when it does it's a whole different ball game. Remember his campaign speeches....those who are more fortunate should share with those who are less fortunate.....

No more than it is stimulated by the rest of us. The cost of one tailored suit can buy a lot of shoes...the diffeerence being that the former stimulates our economy while the latter stimulates China's.
