Oh HECK yes they had awesome tenderloins!
I think about that place everytime I pass that point.

What about when Dave's Pizza King was the hangout?
Or even more obscure, American Pizza in downtown Pendleton?

I used to hang out at the old Pizza King on 67 quite a bit.  Couldn't afford to go anywhere else.  Jimmie expected you to buy something if you went to the Dairy Bar, when it was open in season.

Oh lets back up a few more years and mention Jennette's Diner, on the corner where Ricker's sit's now, downtown Pendleton.  It was a little hole in the wall place next to the old Shell station.  Talk about a greasy spoon.  But you could get a hot dog basket (hot dog and fries) for $.45, then ad a $.15 Coke.  If you were a broke kid, it did the trick, plus it was air conditioned.

The old Old Trail was a great place to eat! I remember when they had all-you-can-eat chicken wings on Sundays.
The new Old Trail is now open out by the highway in the old DQ building. I haven't been there.

The Old Trail had the best potato skins I've ever had. I haven't been to the new one, either.

Their "trail fries" used to be the best but they are nothing like they used to be.  I was soooooo disappointed.  The other stuff was delicious.  Particularly the beer.

Irish wants to plan another lunch. Skyline? Oh, that's right, you already had your chili-cheese dogs...

I've eaten a lot of meals at the Old Trail, Mom used to work there in the 60's.  Same thing at Compton's.   I practically grew up at the Post restaurant and gas station out there by the Police post.  Compton's had the restaurant and Jeffery's had the station where dad worked.  Granny Freestone had an apartment in the back of the Post restaurant, and she had a big Wurlitzer (or something similar) organ in it.

Are you thinking of the Red Brick Inn, maybe? It would be a mile or so before the I-69 interchange if you are heading towards P-town from Anderson on Old 9.

Anyone remember the old Fox Theater in Indy? In high school, a bunch of us would slip off to see the live stage show. Kind of naughty back in the 50's. Now, you see more on TV.

I think Bat is talking about where old 9 (Pendleton Ave) split off 67 just south of 69 and went into P-ton via Falls Park. I barely remember an old wooden building sitting there on that point.

Hey Bat you still have that sportster you bought off me?

Those wonderful Spanish Hamburgers from the lunch counter of McCrory's dime store on the corner of 10th & Meridian, where the city busses used to pick up and drop off passengers. What a great aroma-- the food, NOT the busses! Pa

I have only had this here in the south, but it is a favorite.  Grilled pimento cheese on white bread.  Pimento cheese spread is delicious.  All it is is grated shape cheddar, diced pimentos, mayo, and garlic salt.  Put that in your feed processor to blend and voila!!  I even saw a guy on TV put a little bit of bread and butter pickle juice in it for flavor.  What makes the sandwich so good is that it is already creamy so when you are grilling it, it is super gooey!!  Enjoy!

That corner reeked of old diesel smoke from those cream and green busses. I don't know how anyone could eat anything around there.

Bats,

It was the best fried chicken I've ever had!

At the Old Trail once, my parents took a HUGE snapping turtle that crawled up into our driveway from a pond out back, and had the turtle made into soup and fried turtle. They made us kids eat a bite of it, and I have to say it was delish, however, we were mad at them for killing the poor turtle, so we only took the one bite, no more. That turtle laid eggs by our garage, and in the spring, there were baby turtles all over the place. My parents would eat anything that moved.

Gardengirl: Fried turtle is definitely one of the greatest taste delights on this planet!
They are an absolute bear to clean and prepare, tho; that's why it's so rare and so few people have eaten it. I've helped clean a few, spurred on only by the thought of
the wonderful treat to come. They used to serve it at one of the incarnations of that
little tavern on Columbus Ave., right across the street from Delco-Remy plant 1; right
next door to Bert T. Owens' Ice Cream -- now there's a whole 'nother thread: your
favorite flavor from Bert T's!

I have always preferred "sandwich spread" to "ham salad".  Anyone else feel that way? And my favorite way to have it is grilled like a grilled-cheese sandwich (my favorite grilled-cheese is with col-jack). Hey, kimmi, why don't you and I start a business selling grilled-whatever sandwiches? We will have to come up with a catchy name for them, though. Just calling them "Grilled-<insert filling here>" would probably only net us $2.00 per sandwich.

Let me think......hey! Here's a word that I made up, but it sounds much more delicious and expensive: "Panini". What do you think?

My mom's fav at Bert T. Owens was the orange/pineapple shake, and we all loved the black walnut shakes. You can get nothing like that here in California.

My fav sandwich is on squaw bread-turkey, cheese, bacon, tomato, mayo and avocado! Delish!

My favorite at Bert T's was the cinnamon. Shocking pink in color, and incredibly delicious. Kinda like eating a cinnamon ball while drinking a cold glass of milk. Best I ever ate!
